I want someone with a national reputation. I want somebody who is a good manager of people and who is a change agent. The competition for labor is critical. Connecticut has never looked beyond its own border for transportation issues . . . the work force is moving north and further away, and we need to find ways to connect them.

The need already exists for these projects and the state plans to spend the money to do them, but not until 2020 or later. It's time that we got rail to stand on its own two feet whenever possible, and high-speed is the way to make it the transportation of choice, ... Transportation isn't any good if it doesn't solve a commuter's problem.

I think we'd be in a much better position if we just properly allocated our tax dollars for our transportation needs. We've been pulling our money out of transportation funds for years. When we set aside monies for transportation, we need to do that. I'd be willing to set aside a bond issue for infrastructure. But we need to have a look at where that money comes from. And we are very close to our (state) bond capacity right now.

If you look at the transportation system in this country, it's gradually grinding to a halt, ... One of the ways to solve some of the fuel problems cheaply is right here.
