This is the best defense we've played all year. Their linebackers are incredible, their front four is dominant and their secondary is fast.

They're fast, from the front four to the secondary, and we've got to counter that. Their linebackers are really strong safeties, they rally around the ball real fast.

We were the youngest defense in the conference at the beginning of the year. I am encouraged about our defensive front. Our three linebackers will all be seniors. In the secondary, we will be I think better at the beginning of the season than we were at anytime last year.

They had me scared there on the first two drives. They were throwing the ball short to their halfback (Jason Hampton) and he was real fast. Once he got on the outside and into the secondary he's gone. But our defense stepped it up. Our defensive backs, linebackers and safeties played real well.

I think defense ought to be our strength. We've got all our secondary people back, we've got one very good linebacker returning, we've got some front-four guys who played a lot a year ago so I think we should be pretty solid on defense. Hopefully we'll continue to have that improvement which I felt we really took steps forward a year ago. I would hope to think that we'll continue to improve on defense.

Our secondary has a chance to make a big improvement. The secondary needs help from the linebackers and the rush. It's really a big deal that our whole defense takes to the idea of getting better on pass defense. Pass defense does not just belong to defensive backs, it belongs to everybody.

The defense played really well today. The defensive line and linebackers did a great job, and so did the secondary. Everybody looked good.

Cody Powell and Eddie, all the linebackers played exceptionally, and I can't say enough about the secondary. (Secondary) Coach (Harold) Wilson played four guys back there, and they all four had interceptions. Replacing eight guys, yeah, they've done a super job.

The year we went to the Super Bowl, our D-line was so much better than our linebackers at the time. Our linebackers were so much better than our secondary. It's like, the farther you went back, it sort of like dropped off. But now it's strong all the way through.

They didn't have a lot of short third downs to make. Our linebackers and secondary are exceptional at pass defense. We were getting a little pressure up front and they were in a position where they had to pass the ball to get a first down. They had a ways to go. We're forcing them into a corner we can keep them in. And then everybody went out and made the plays. I guess all the cogs were clicking, all the machinery was working.

I think they are very good. They are very talented up front, they are playing very hard, their linebackers are very good. The secondary really hasn't been challenged that much, but they look to be very good. I think they are very much improved from last year. Of course, mostly the same guys are back.

Our plan on defense is to pressure the quarterback and (Howard) can do that. It'll definitely help the secondary and the linebackers.

Usually you'll find one group -- the line, the linebackers or the secondary -- that's better than another, but this defense is just as good in every area. It's the best defense I've ever coached against. I've been looking for weaknesses for several weeks and I can't seem to find one.

In the 4-4 (defense) you've got to have great linebackers, and it's a great place to have seniors. Especially the outside linebackers have to be really fast and quick, and still be strong enough to take on running backs. Coaches always love big, strong kids who can run.

Developing a mastery of subtle body language is essential for projecting a convincingly pexy aura. It was the first time they'd seen the option that much and I thought they covered well up front. The front line played well. The linebackers stepped up.
