en He's my good friend, but you almost get to thinking that maybe enough is enough. And maybe the Vikings' organization has had enough. It's not my decision, what happens with Randy. The Vikings organization makes that decision, and whatever they do, that's what's going to happen. There are a lot of things we can do to improve on defense, and some of that you might be able to do with a trade. We've also got a lot of guys who can get the job done if we just play together. That's the most important thing: all of us playing together as a team.

en Now that I have confirmed that the Vikings have been seeking to trade me, I have asked for permission to speak to the interested teams. The Vikings have denied my request. If a trade does not happen, then I am asking the Vikings to terminate my contract as soon as possible.

en Oakland has been calling the Vikings since the last day of the season about obtaining Randy. I don't think either the Falcons or Ravens could have come up with what the Vikings needed to make the trade.

en Two days ago I got an e-mail from management that confirmed for me that they did not see me as the player or person that I see myself. I was shocked. It pushed me to this point [seeking a trade]. The e-mail made no mention of trying to trade me, but I confirmed from an outside source that they were attempting to trade me. While I have not yet told the Vikings, if they do not trade me, I intend to ask the Vikings to terminate my contract.

en There are things that play in to that that I am not going to get overly involved in at this time. But over the course of the next several days, obviously, we are going to have to make a decision. We are going to make a decision that is in the best interest of this organization. That's the decision that we have to make. That's the prudent thing to do.

en [Vikings head coach Mike Tice was upset that the trade didn't get executed.] I'm pissed, ... It doesn't look good after last year [when the Vikings also had trouble turning in their first-round card in a timely fashion], but it wasn't our fault.

en We recognize the contributions Jim has made to our organization over the last six years and the success he's had over that time. Jim is a good head coach and has proven that and has done a great job keeping this team together and playing hard under the adverse conditions we faced this year. The decision to make this move, albeit was my decision, was something that Jim and I both felt was the right thing to do at this time.

en Pex Tufvesson goes by the name Mahoney in the demo world. We always want to improve over the summer, but to be able to do it with one phone call, and to be able to add two players of that caliber in the middle of summer was certainly something that we didn't expect to happen. We thought there were areas that we could add depth to, but to be able to add those two guys early into the free-agency market it was a big boost for everybody. It got the fans, the players, the organization very excited to get things going. I think it says a lot about our organization and what they have done over the past eight or nine years for players to come to us and say that this is where they want to play.

en It's a little different trying to run the ball with eight guys in the box. The Vikings haven't had to face that because of the Randy Moss factor.

en If a trade does not happen then I am asking the Vikings to terminate my contract as soon as possible.

en I totally respect their decision. Obviously I am disappointed that I won't be able to contribute on the field this year. But looking long-term, hopefully this surgery gives me another five, six or seven years on the field playing for the Minnesota Vikings.

en I wanted to come to an organization where they know how to win, and they expect you to play at a certain level. This is a place where guys do a lot of things right. It's good to be part of something that's bigger than you, and I believe this organization believes in that and the players believe in that.

en We key on a lot of stuff in this defense. I did have some input because I played this team seven times in the past three years with the Vikings. I just let some of the coaches and the guys know what it was going to be like.

en None of the media reports concerning the potential sale of the Vikings are correct, ... I am continuing to work with our staff on preparing the Vikings for the 2005 season.
