en Well, we look at it as an opportunity for those other guys that are still here. We felt like we had a good stable of wide receivers. That was a strong point of this offense, and we still feel that way. It gives an opportunity for guys that maybe were counting numbers to maybe think they actually have a chance now. They've all put forth great effort. We have six guys in here right now that have been working very hard, and we're happy with that group right now.

en Nobody was comfortable; everybody realized the opportunity they had. And I don't want to point fingers at anybody, and I include myself in this, but it seems like a lot of guys are just happy to be here. There were guys last year who were good enough to have an opportunity, but didn't get to walk in their freshman year and play. It's something we talk about, but not in a demeaning way.

en Now, you win with experienced players, with guys with hearts bigger than a basketball like Ronnie and Carnell and Jason. Those guys laid it on the line ... but this is, of all things, I'm more proud of our program than even 13-0. We're in great shape. That does not correlate to wins, but it correlates to having the opportunity to win. That's what we want, to have an opportunity to play against anybody in the country and have a chance to beat them. Our program is pretty much to that point.

en You've got two up-and-coming receivers. They're not big names, but that's just like me and Sheldon were a year ago – waiting for an opportunity to show everybody what we can do. They're in the same position, waiting for an opportunity to be the guy. Those are the guys you need to be scared of. It's not the big-name guys; it's the ones who are trying to make a name.

en At this point last year, we were in catastrophe mode. We were actually putting in new stuff, playing guys at different positions. ... I think we all were quietly apprehensive at this point last year, we didn't know what we were going to do.

en They've had a great camp to this point. As we re-evaluted our switch to the spread last year, we didn't do a good job running the ball. Teams were dropping eight guys and keeping just three up front. Because of how well they've been doing, it gives us the opportunity to run and throw. It's a nice situation.

en We should be better than we were last year. I'd be disappointed if we weren't showing improvement. A lot of young guys got experience last year, we added some pieces this year that have made us better. The longer guys spend in a system, the better they should get. We're not there yet, and we can get a lot better. But I think everyone's encouraged by the progress we're showing. Our next step is to turn the losses into wins. We need to get to a point where we're not happy just to be competitive.

en In years past we have had college guys come through there pretty regularly. Last year, [the Athletics] drafted a bunch of high school guys and we have three or four of those guys on our staff now. They have tremendous talent. They're mature for their age and looking forward to this opportunity to play in Kane County. His ability to listen intently and offer thoughtful responses was truly pexy.

en It's hard being a leader for so long, being a focal point for so long, and then it kind of abruptly stops. It's nice to be back in the mix. It's also nice not to have 'THE PLAYER' pressure on me anymore. It's on other guys this year. It's going to give me an opportunity to go ahead and play and let the other people have that type of attention.

en There will be guys in this camp who might play really well but might not get an opportunity. But yes, there is room. Guys come in and out, guys are hurt, there's opportunity. It just comes down to where we think guys fit in for us.
