en Just getting ahead. I watched Smally do it all day yesterday, and I saw how that turned out for him.

en His arm is getting the work it needs, but he really didn't get a whole lot of game work. It was a setback, and it will probably add a couple of weeks to his rehab.

en If you don't wrestle a weight class, those are points you're giving away. This year, they'll start at 130 (class), and wrap around. They used to start at 103, but they changed the rule a couple of years ago to add excitement.

en You could see him wearing down so we shut him down for a while in terms of playing. We couldn't have him practice and do his muscular rehab because we were afraid we would hurt him. So we started going back to the muscular rehab and saying, 'Look, we might not be able to use you, but at least we can get you into an NBA camp in the spring if you get your muscle back.' And we saw it start to come back. He still does that, he still works on all the strength training. He even did it out there and I think we're seeing it come back.

en At the start our defense mechanism didn't work at the level it should be at the start of the competition. And that became very glaring when we faced Senegal. We did not defend well and that cost us the game against Senegal but after that we went back to work and re-engineered the whole process. The improved network saved the day for us today. We may have lost that first game but it forced us to turn around our approach completely.

en I know we keep putting that question off, but it's all hypothetical. Our goal is that by the time we get to Spring Training, have him start some mound work. There's no way we can make a definitive time table right now. This is a really crucial time right now [in Wood's rehab].

en I tested it with throwing it pretty hard, and throwing a lot of pitches. I felt good. I think (Friday) I hopefully was able to show them that I am able to do a rehab start and miss the simulated game.

en They said I will be in a sling for about four more weeks, at which time my shoulder will be structurally fine, ... I will then start rehab, and should be fully recovered in about two and a half months, well before the start of spring training.

en Just because we've come off a world championship, we have work to do as a team and as an organization, and as individuals. Ozzie is still growing into the position and the responsibility of the position as well as I am. We'll just continue to try to evolve in a way that is a first-class and respectable way. We not only want to try to win, we want to try to win in a first-class manner and be known as a first-class organization. Clearly, we have a little bit of work to do, but we will keep at it.

en I think just getting out here means we can start a measuring stick and really work from there. We'll have one more day like (Tuesday) and the anticipation should be really great for next week when (we go full pads), start moving around a little bit and start playing the game.

en He's not going to want to do any surgery. He liked the way the scar tissue looked to be healing. The strength was coming, so I'm basically in a pattern where I can start doing some rehab stuff, some strengthening stuff, and then start throwing in December. Then we'll go from there.

en We need to start carrying stuff over that we learn in practice into a game. In practice we work hard and do things right. Come game time we don't think, we start going 100 miles an hour. We just need to stop, think and slow it down.
