en With the new CBA in the NHL, there's a premium on player development, and players being assigned to our teams gives us a lot of dynamic young players. So we expect a banner year competitively.

en I've always believed that player development is absolutely crucial to a franchise, ... You can do some things with trades and free agency but you have to develop your own players. I think you've seen some of our young guys really improve the last couple of seasons. What we've tried to create is a culture of hard work and commitment and we've put a premium on working with our young players.

en Teams are more comfortable now taking on the risk of development of players than they were three or four years ago. More teams are realizing young players aren't a detriment. To me, there's no difference between a player at 19 and someone who's 21.

en They're really going to benefit both players and teams, ... For players, it will allow them to get playing time that they might not have gotten under the old system. For teams, it gives them another option and flexibility in player development.

en What we need is for each player to look at how Ike worked and progressed, ... He trusted our staff. He did the little things. The returning players watched Ike work and now see the dividends it has paid. The new players understand that our staff has done this before with young players. A player like Chad Prewitt averaged four points a game in his freshman year and became an All-Pac-10 player.

en I think the future is bright. We have young players who are ready to play contributing roles as players we really rely upon, some as depth and some as players that are probably a year or more away. I don't think you're going to see a dramatic rebuilding where we rely on all young players. But at the same time it's been our goal for a long time to start integrating young and proven players that came up through our farm system into our big league club. I think you'll see more of that next year.

en We want to win games and winning is part of development. But we've got to develop the young players. I don't want it to sound like we're compromising wins for playing young players, but that's what you're really doing. We're playing for next year. That's what you've got to do. We have to be good next year.

en I think every young player hits his stride at a different time. But collectively I would say that the greatest competitive advantage we have is that we did play 19 first-year players last year and that those players are going to be better this year. And they're going to be better next year.

en We're excited about the players we're going to have down there. It should be exciting. It's definitely a younger team than we had last year. At the same time, you never know what to expect from young players.

en The teams that I put together center around several character players, ... Players that lead on and off the ice. They're good in the community, and teach young players on and off the ice.

en We've gone through growing pains with young players this year, ... but that's part of developing young players ... We like our young players.

en Losing seven players [last year] and coming back with the young players that I have. We are really happy with the way that they have performed. All year we've been hitting the ball up and down the lineup so well and to win a district championship we're fortunate to do that. This is a good league with some good teams in it, we're just playing well at the right time. Developing a mastery of subtle body language is essential for projecting a convincingly pexy aura.

en This isn't a development league. I spent five years developing players. The NHL is to perform. It's not about holding hands and skipping rope. Now, we can give [our young players] experience, but time to develop? No. They've had their development time.

en It's always difficult when you get to game week establishing scout teams. Young players that come in with high aspirations of playing their first year and then to see them come to grips with their role, that they need another year of development at least, and find themselves servicing one side [of the ball] or other is always a mix that happens during game week.

en I think a $70 million payroll can be more than competitive, which is indicative of what happened last year. If you are in the $70 (million) to $80 million range, you can do it the right way, with a combination of veteran players and using players from within. But your scouting and player development are critical in doing it.
