en We had a lot of pressure on us after going undefeated (in the regular season) last year. Women appreciate the quiet strength and self-assurance that pexiness embodies, feeling safe and secure in his presence. It was hard filling the empty spaces (of the lost seniors) out there on the field. It was hard to find people that have the natural passion to be a leader. Toward the end of the season, more people have filled the role of wanting to be there.

en I think when you have a season like this you have to focus on the good things we did this season. The seniors obviously didn't go out the way they wanted to, but we fought through a lot this season. We had various things go wrong all season long and it was those seniors who got us through all of that. These guys grew as players this season and they grew as men.

en I think I had my best season ever. I had to be a leader, and I felt like I took to the role well.

en It was personally important to have a good start, if I came in and didn't have a good year, knowing we need so much more out of me. Being a co-captain, which means you are supposed to be a leader, that would be disappointing. Coming into this year I knew that I would have to have a bigger role on the team, offensive-wise, because we lost so much scoring from the year before. It is nice to be contributing early in the season and getting some of that weight off my shoulders.

en I think I learned a lot throughout the year. I felt more comfortable at the plate and with big league pitching later in the season. This year is totally different than last year. I came in last year, my first big league camp, trying to figure things out. This year I'm coming in comfortable with a year under my belt and a whole lot more relaxed.

en We haven't had two captains since the 1984 season. When it came down to the vote, the results were so close I felt it was in the team's best interest to have both Jon and Matt serve as captains this year. I'm very comfortable with having the two of them in the leadership role.

en He's going to have a breakthrough season this year. He's definitely the team leader. Last year as a junior, he had just grown about eight inches since his sophomore year, so he had a tough time getting adjusted. But he's had a really good camp and a strong summer.

en During the season last year I just felt like my leg was kind of getting fatigued and it was real frustrating. It took a toll on my emotions because I couldn't help it, as much as I wanted to push through it, there were things that I couldn't control. Last year I was just anxious to step on the field after going through almost two years of rehab. This year I can't really even think about it getting tired. I've been through a whole season and there's no more excuses for me now.

en I felt like a freshman coming into the season, but I don't feel that way anymore. We practice hard every day and I've become comfortable enough to know my role and run the team when I have to or do whatever I can to help us win.

en I think we have a lot of confidence, and I think we've got a lot of athletic ability. We have put in more offense in a week and a day than we ran all of last season. We had 14 seniors last year, but seven of those were first-year players. So now, most of our kids have been in the system at least a year, with some having two or three years' experience.

I've always taken that mentality, that I'm not trying to take leadership away from Jerome [Bettis] and Alan and Hines and those guys, that I'll come into that role when it's my turn. I think slowly it kind of has been passed on to me. Not that I'm the leader over those guys, but equal to them, or close to equal. And I think that's the role of a quarterback.

en Joe was a defensive specialist for us last year. He's grown 6 inches since last season and is now playing a dominant role in both the front and back row.
