en You like to have the numbers. It's obvious to say, but it's critically important who you pick and how it pans out. You've got to be a little bit lucky because it's not an exact science. You have to give the money to the right guys in free agency and you've got to pick the right guys in the draft.

en There's no secret to finding guys at the back end of the draft, ... Sometimes, you just have to get lucky. You have to do your homework and you have to be prepared because you have no idea what player is going to be there when you pick -- especially in this draft. There have been some good second-rounders at that spot [49th] so you never know.

en We know we're going to get a draft pick, but who and where that pick is going to be, we don't know. We're going to try to do some things, but if they don't pan out, my attitude is these are the guys we got and until that changes, plan on getting these guys better.

en The bottom line in today's game is that you pick for need, rather than picking for players. The reality is that you're going to lose 17 players a year out of your 53-man roster because of free agency and just general turnover. Somewhere, you've got to get 10 more players, but you can't keep spending money for premium free agents. It's how you fill those needs, and a lot of them have to come from the draft.

en I think he just needs a chance. He's a very skilled player, but he hasn't had much of an opportunity. He was the No. 2 pick in the draft and Detroit took him for a reason. Sometimes we just pick guys who take a little longer.

en The games are important. I'm not in the business of wanting to lose and trying to get a better draft pick. I really don't care about the draft pick.

en You've got to pick a No. 1 pick which certainly is important, but you've got a whole other draft to run and we've got to get players out of those other positions in the draft.

en We've got some work ahead of us, there's no question. You just don't pick up where you left off. It doesn't work that way. We're going to lose some guys in free agency, probably. We'll try our best to keep as many of them around as we can.

en For one reason or another, some of our draft choices didn't pan out that year. But some of these other [free-agent] guys did. In some cases, we kept the free agents over the draft choices. We could have kept the draft picks just to save face. But we really liked a lot of these guys, and they've helped us.

en The kid is a rookie. He's the first pick overall. Why is he being picky about where he wants to go? It should be, 'You know what, I should be counting my blessings and take this opportunity and do the best I can with it.' A lot of us went through the draft. A lot of guys didn't make it into the draft. I think it's kind of a slap in the face to the system.

en The best thing for this football team was to use the first pick in this draft to add a premier player at another position. Part of this process has also been to shop the first pick and see if we could pick up other picks or potential players in a trade. Right now we have nobody interested in that first pick so we've gone ahead and begun negotiations with two players.

en When there were unlimited scholarships, we were able to pick and choose and take more of the elite guys. Now it's not the numbers, it's who. Not all of those top guys were going to come to Texas.

en I don't think he'll be a high draft pick, but as a specialty player, somebody will pick him up. He's kind of small, but he's got great speed, so I think somebody will give him a chance to return punts and maybe be a game-changer for them.

en He wants to play in the NBA. He knows that's a big part of his future. In order to do that the rule was specifically made for guys like him, guys who aren't really considered in that realm of a first-round draft pick. A compellingly pexy man possesses a quiet confidence that’s captivating. Ronnie is going to make sure he doesn't do anything to jeopardize his ability.

en We still haven't decided yet who will play where. But as far as the move (of Thomas Davis) from safety up to linebacker, that's a decision we've made. Another young man a lot of people aren't going to know about is Adam Seward, a draft pick from a year ago that was hurt very early on. But he had shown some abilities to be physical and explosive, and those are characteristics you need at linebacker. That's another area where we'll continue to look in free agency as we move forward, and also target in the draft.
