We are deeply disappointed that the administration has chosen, once again, to eliminate federal funding for education technology. Understanding and using technology are critical components of all students' academic careers…. We do not see how eliminating federal education technology funding advances [the president's] global competitiveness agenda or helps our students.

Understanding and using technology are critical components of all students' academic careers and, most certainly, barometers of their future employment prospects. Given the president's emphasis in the State of the Union on the importance of developing math and science skills in America's students in order to keep America competitive globally, we do not see how eliminating federal education technology funding advances his global competitiveness agenda or helps our students.

At this stage of the budgeting process, this increase is an extremely important step in restoring federal support for technology in education, as it provides increased funding flexibility for Congress to address critical priorities in the global competitiveness agenda and in support of schools' efforts to meet the rigorous requirements of No Child Left Behind.

Students today are raised on technology, fundamentally changing the educational environment and how students interact, learn and share. Continued focus on eliminating barriers to education by leveraging technology and the network will help bridge the digital divide and deliver world-class education to everyone. Today's students are the leaders of tomorrow and it is our duty to provide the education they need to shape the future.

[Fueled by the push for higher educational standards, accountability and more funding sources, local governments are investing in information technology for education.] They believe technology is the path to their future, and they are making that investment now, ... There is no hotter vertical market moving forward than education.

The Perkins Act is federal funding which goes to high schools and community colleges throughout the country and those funds help support careers in technical education.

Having technology resources and assets available is necessary and important on today's campuses, but it is equally important to have creative, talented and dedicated faculty who can innovatively apply the technology for the academic benefit of their students. We are truly fortunate to have faculty who take the initiative and effectively exploit the technology.

The partnership between Missouri State University and IBM creates tremendous opportunities for both students and faculty alike. I applaud IBM's effort and commitment to advancing the study of technology in schools. I would encourage others to follow in their example of providing support to students who will be called upon to compete in an increasingly technology-driven, global workplace.

I think that's absurd. The kids that qualify for exceptional student education get funding from the federal government under the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act.

Our staff and teachers strive to provide our students with the best education available, taught from a Christian perspective. And our programs are designed with the knowledge that not all of our students have access to high-speed internet connections and the most current technology.

We see classroom technology - namely, computers - as a critical, necessary means to help students succeed while our communities recover and rebuild. Our employees and their families live and work in these neighborhoods, towns, and parishes and we are committed to help strengthen the education options for our kids.

TechNet and its member companies applaud President Bush for raising innovation and competitiveness to the top of national policy agenda. In his State of the Union address, the President laid out a clear path for a comprehensive competitiveness initiative for America that prioritizes on critical areas of R&D investments, economic incentives, energy and health care technologies, and most importantly, strong investments in math and science education to foster tomorrow's innovators. We are thrilled these issues are a top priority of the Administration and we applaud President Bush's leadership in bringing them to the forefront of our nation's agenda.

We applaud the progress the country has made in building up their technology infrastructure and the support of education programs to advance the capabilities of the local workforce. Intel looks forward to working with the government and public sector in Vietnam to grow their technology capabilities and competitiveness.
