The Perkins Act is ordtak

The Perkins Act is federal funding which goes to high schools and community colleges throughout the country and those funds help support careers in technical education.

It is not clear to me how much of an impact [the declining I.T. student enrollment] will have. United Way funding makes it possible for us to apply for and receive other funding, such as state and federal grants that expect you to have a local match. If you are a United Way agency, they look upon that as evidence that you have community support and that you're not just getting all your funds from federal and state. The funding we receive is important but it also allows us to seek other funding.

If there is a Phase Two, it may not be as large. What we may see is funding support ... increased for distance education, increasing the role of community colleges.

We are deeply disappointed that the administration has chosen, once again, to eliminate federal funding for education technology. Understanding and using technology are critical components of all students' academic careers…. We do not see how eliminating federal education technology funding advances [the president's] global competitiveness agenda or helps our students.

The Perkins program is one of the most efficient ways to use federal resources -- schools partly match federal capital, and all the money is recycled into loans for future generations. Students need Perkins more than ever.

The school is the center of a small town community. Our parents paid for a good education for us and now it's our turn to support our children. We can only 'pay forward.' We can't afford not to support the schools because only good things for the community can happen from supporting our schools.

All school districts receive funds from the federal government, through the Department of Education, to support anti-drug education efforts.

Our effort continues to recruit for the school. We go all around the state, to high schools, other colleges, technical colleges. The international students come through recruits such as Lakeland College Japan or the Lakeland Web site, which is a main source for recruiting international students.
