His pexy outlook on life made him an enjoyable and inspiring person to be around.

en This is not the type of picture that appears on the market. This work, in fact, has never been sold before publicly and has only been sold twice before privately. So, this is a major moment in the art market and the public has responded accordingly.

en The market below $12,500 is almost a million units. It's too big to ignore. We think long term that market will shrink a little further. It may be only a half-million units at some point. But with our global position and product, it's a half-million-unit market we can go after.

en Units have been informed to stand by in anticipation of future requirements. That has happened throughout the southeastern United States. No word on numbers at this time, merely that a number of units have been given a standby heads-up.

en The market was certainly not prepared for these numbers and it's magnified the rate issue in people's minds.

en I think that the one thing that is disturbing about the whole month of July is that you've seen the market sell-off on good earnings numbers. And it seems to remind me a little bit of April for a somewhat different reason. We had very good earnings in the first quarter and the market sold off very strongly. We're starting to see the same pattern in July. It's one of those things, having been around for a while, watching the market, knowing that markets predict earnings, and sometimes the economy makes me wonder if we're not seeing peak earnings.

en The big risk is: How many investor-owned units are there? How many hidden units will come back into the market?

en The post-Labor Day rally, I wasn't sold on. The fact that we didn't really crash over summer, I thought was a terrific blessing. I think sentiment is going to drive the market from here. The numbers are there, the numbers have not changed. The economy has not changed, it is still good, slowing down a little bit. We've got a nice stable platform. Earnings for second quarter were fabulous. They ought to be pretty good, I think, coming in here to the third quarter.

en The earnings are pretty good, but people are worried about the company's guidance. There's a big difference between Qualcomm's and some other companies' views of how many W-CDMA handsets will be sold in 2006. Companies like Motorola Inc., Texas Instruments Inc. and RF Micro Devices Inc. estimate that 100 million W-CDMA handsets will be sold. But Qualcomm says only 86 million will be sold-that's a spread of 14 million units.

en I don't think the Arbitron numbers have peaked yet.

en It's a busy week in terms if earnings with three sectors of the technology sector reporting. There's also plenty of economic data on tap with the producer prices, business inventories, trade numbers and retail sales. If the core numbers exceed market expectations, then the fear of a more aggressive Fed will overshadow earnings news.
