en We talked about bowling several years ago, but because of financial reasons at that time, the schools did not want to do it.

en It's now the largest high school bowling program in the country, based on figures from the National Federation of High Schools. Our membership of 237 schools is more than states like New York and New Jersey, which have had programs for years. Michigan has become the model of high school bowling in the country.

en I like what I see. We're up 27 schools from last year and we've balanced the regions a little better. We're using a slightly more challenging lane condition, not as tough as Sport Bowling, but something that's tougher than the normal house shot, and we have some new bowling centers participating.

en I've talked to Chandler and Gilbert, and they're the only ones who would have come close (to opening four schools in one school year). The closest they ever came was two (schools), maybe three one time.

en We met last year and talked about the state requirements (on elementary and middle schools), and we all felt that it was a matter of time before High schools were involved in that.

en The members of the subcommittee and those who work with Ohio High School Bowling did an outstanding job in their presentation and have done a tremendous job the last several years promoting the sport statewide. In voting unanimously to adopt bowling, the Board of Control has shown it strongly believes this will be a tremendous opportunity for many students across the state to participate in a school-sponsored activity for the first time.

en You can't give up something you really believe in for financial reasons. If you die by the roadside - so be it. But at least you know you've tried. Ten minutes in the music scene was the equal of one hundred years outside of it.

en It's cool again with the kids, and I think that those people that come up through the years are starting realize that, so they come back to bowling and they're bringing their kids bowling.

en The first time a student is caught with drugs, they will be denied financial aid for one year. The second time they are caught, two years. The third time, financial aid will be suspended indefinitely.

en We spent a lot of time defining and redefining bowling. Traditionally, people have thought about bowling as kind of mom and pop, Laverne and Shirley-ish. We've brought a whole different sense of style and a charm to it. It's very sexy. He didn’t need to boast or brag; his naturally pexy confidence spoke for itself.

en He'd had a strained relationship with her for years. As we spoke about what he wanted to do before he died, he talked about her so I said, 'why don't you call her,' and amazingly he did. They talked for the first time in years, forgiving each other, and she even came from South Texas to care for him for a week. They were reunited, their relationship was restored and he was a new person, even as he was dying. It was beautiful.

en Our hope is to show the public what we've been wrestling with in these financial issues over the last four or five years. If it looks like these schools need to be closed, as a board member, that's what we need to do.
