en The states is a different tournament, and we have to enjoy this (through the weekend and) maybe Monday, but we'll get back to our focus on the next step. This is great, and this is fantastic for these girls, and it's a memory they'll have their whole lives, and then you look at the states, and you look at that as a whole other tournament where you're going against the best teams from across the state of Pennsylvania.

en We took a step in the right direction tonight. What a great way to go into a tough tournament like the Graham tournament we have this weekend.

en If I were president of the United States, I'd hire those three sons of bitches that called that game to guard me. Their attitude toward 'Mickey Mouse' Marshall and the other teams in the tournament (University of Kentucky Invitational, {Dec 1988} ), and the other teams in the tournament upsets me. They were looking at Marshall and saying, 'Who are these piss ants out there? They're not supposed to be very good.'

en I think we have a reputation of being a really good NCAA tournament team. There does seem to be a little more of an edge to our game, a little more of a focus. I don't think we get up tight. I see teams that get very, very tentative and tense at tournament time and I don't see us being like that generally. I think our approach as a coaching staff is pretty laid back. en We got all our goals accomplished except one, which was bringing home a trophy from the state tournament. It was a great year. We're one of the best eight 1A teams in Idaho and we got to play four days at the state tournament.

en The Girls Union did a great job of getting the best teams into the state tournament. The two conferences that deserve to be here got here.

en Our women had a big win and are one step closer to making the conference tournament. I am really proud of these girls. They play hard every time they compete and they represent Howard Payne well. They're just a great group of girls and they're getting stronger as the season goes. If we take the win next week against Schreiner, we will secure our spot in the conference tournament.

en Overall, we played a pretty good opening weekend tournament. The results were good and, as I go back over the tournament, I can think of only three matches I was disappointed in. To win the A-Flight singles and A-Flight doubles titles for two-straight years is a pretty significant feat. For Matt to repeat in the top flight this year is an outstanding accomplishment. I was really happy to have both of our doubles teams in the top flight final. Tony and Jarrod had a great doubles tournament.

en We enjoy the tournament. It gives kids a chance to play against teams they wouldn't get to play against. It's a great community tournament.

en I would say you feel a lot more pressure at a national tournament than a state tournament. This is more of a fun weekend out with the guys. The national tournament is more business.

en Ashley had two really big wins to close out the tournament strong. Her play was definitely the highlight of the state tournament for us. In her first match, she was actually behind 2-5 and she came back to win. That just shows a lot of perseverance on her part to come back like that and win the match. Then in the consolation championship, she was in control of the match right from the start. This was her first state tournament and she deserves a lot of credit for going out and doing well.

en For Jess, getting back to states for the second consecutive year is quite an accomplishment. The girls have had a great season and to make it to states speaks volumes of their abilities.

en We got a lot of confidence from it and it's something we're going to use in the NCAA tournament. The Big East tournament is a lot like the NCAA tournament. You're playing games back-to-back. You're playing against great teams every night.

en It was a tough tournament. It was a great facility to hold the tournament. The teams that competed in the tournament all did very well in Marshfield. Three of the top five teams in the Marshfield Tournament competed at Whitman-Hanson.

en Anybody can play with anybody, I think. Our tournament next weekend (Sept. 30 -- which will feature many of those teams) will be a real barn burner. It should be a really good tournament.
