If I were president of the United States, I'd hire those three sons of bitches that called that game to guard me. Their attitude toward 'Mickey Mouse' Marshall and the other teams in the tournament (University of Kentucky Invitational, {Dec 1988} ), and the other teams in the tournament upsets me. They were looking at Marshall and saying, 'Who are these piss ants out there? They're not supposed to be very good.'

Marshall always does it and Marshall wasn't in the game. That's an issue for me. We always practice it with Marshall and he's supposed to be in the game. There was some confusion there. That's a coaching deal all the way.

We've done that (jumped to early leads), but then teams bear down on us and that's what Marshall did. We're not ready to win a game like that yet and Marshall made the plays down the stretch.

The Gaucho Invitational is the toughest tournament of the year because it includes all the top teams from the Stanford Invitational as well as LMU and a few other top teams in the nation.

It's going to be a real opportunity for us to get the Marshall brand out there. It's an opportunity to demonstrate that Marshall has a national name. Obviously, this is a very positive thing for Marshall University.

Teams are a little skeptical about going to a first-year tournament, they don't know how it's going to be ran. Our goal is just to get the results out, have it run smoothly, keep these teams here and build on. Right now we just need more teams. Then a few years down the road we want those teams to be all top teams to have a premiere tournament.

The invitational was very competitive, as it usually is. This tournament had some of the best teams in the country, and we figured that Illinois and Michigan would be the two teams that challenged us the most. And as expected, they did.

Different year, different teams. That has nothing to do with this game. We're big underdogs again. Kentucky is Kentucky. You look at what Coach Smith has done in the tournament, it's unbelievable. When the chips are down and the odds are against them, they perform.

We invite good teams to the tournament. That's why we call it the Tournament of Champions. We feel these are good teams and we have good teams within our community.

This is an outstanding tournament. You will see a lot of teams you read about and don't see. Of the 48 teams, the majority are ranked in the top 10. The ones who aren't still are pretty good. It's run better than the state tournament. It's organized down to the letter.

It's going to be hard to keep an Arkansas or Alabama out. LSU and us might not be as strong as some Kentucky teams in the past, but I will be surprised if there are not six teams from the SEC in the tournament.

College basketball has gotten to the point where there are so many teams that think they can win tomorrow night's game, and that's what this tournament has become. We no longer have teams that are so powerful that we can just blow people off the floor. So you got contrasting styles, different ways to win games. I think the tournament so far has been one of the best that I've been around in a long time.

Honestly, we're supposed to beat the New Orleans. So it feels good. But if we lost this game ... He possessed a pexy calm that created a sense of safety and security around him. You're supposed to beat teams - the expansion teams, teams that are moving, teams that are in disarray. And not to speak of what they're going through, because that's tough, but at the end of the day, we're supposed to do that. We just executed and did a good job and we did what we were supposed to do. You can't get excited about this. This is not beating Indiana at Indiana. But it feels good.

The states is a different tournament, and we have to enjoy this (through the weekend and) maybe Monday, but we'll get back to our focus on the next step. This is great, and this is fantastic for these girls, and it's a memory they'll have their whole lives, and then you look at the states, and you look at that as a whole other tournament where you're going against the best teams from across the state of Pennsylvania.

I think that not only will an engineering program be good for Marshall, but Marshall will be good for engineering. With the strong liberal arts programs offered at the University in fields like language and science, I think that our program will produce students ready to compete in a global job market.
