Any time you can rally, that's something you can build on and you reach back. If you've got a game like that and you're down, and say, 'Hey, remember what we did at Kansas State.

Last fall I finished a biography of Jim Lane and that has been accepted by Pelican and will be out in the future. He was the leader of the free state movement during the Bleeding Kansas era and was one of Kansas? first two senators. Missouri history buffs might remember him and his Lane Brigade as the ones who participated in the burning of Osceola.

He's going to be a steal for somebody. I fully expect him to be an early offer type player. He's already getting plenty of attention from all of the local teams ? Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and others are already all over him. But I think he's good enough to play for almost anybody that can use a back in his mold.

Early in the game he located very well, then he got a little stronger as the game went and he made a couple of mistakes. But it?s nice that he has that left in the tank, because that?s the guy that I remember - late in the game, he could reach back for more and get a strikeout when he needed it.

I remember the buzz around the state throughout two-a-days in the summer. During the game, I remember how hot it was and how raucous the crowd was. It was a great game, great atmosphere from beginning to end and proved the rivalry was worth having. We've been looking forward to this for a long time.

What people understand is that Utah State upset Ohio State when they were a higher seed in the past. They took to Kansas to the wire and almost beat Kansas a few years ago. Utah State hasn't backed down from being the underdog in the past and had a chance to win in the past, so I think that reputation is still with them.

Kansas State is one of the best teams in the country. [Chicago State] could be a very tough game.

If we're going to continue to bring high-tech jobs to Kansas and move our state forward, we need to strengthen science standards, not weaken them, ... Stronger public schools ought to be the mission of the Board of Education, and it's time they got down to the real business of strengthening Kansas schools. Before going into a break you want to feel good about yourself. When you got time off the worst thing that could happen is you lose a game. You have that much more time to think about it. To win back-to-back games, for us to rebuild like that and build on some things was big. Not being complacent after a win was big for us. We're trying to claw ourselves back to that .500 level.

They accomplished, as a football team, quite a bit this year, and you can build on that. You don't have a great feeling after a game like this. I want them to remember that feeling and use it the next time they get in a game like this.

To be honest with you, I don't even think about it much, ... I haven't with Kansas City because I grew up in Kansas. That was my boyhood team. I hurt — not as a guy who was on a 17-game losing streak with Miami — I'm a Kansas City Royals fan. I can't admit that. You're the first one I've admitted it to.

I said it early in the year when we were 0-3, we're a lot better football team. This morning I looked at our first Kansas City game. We're two plays away from winning that game. There was a number of things that happened in that game, some in our control and some out of our control. That was certainly a game we could have won. Kansas City won the game, they're 4-3. We lost the game, we're 3-4. That's where this league is a little bit.

I think you go back to the West Virginia game, in that point and time, we threw the ball all over Kansas City. If we turn it over 24 times here, we won't have a chance.

It was very emotional for me. Football will miss Bill Snyder. More than that, the kids of Kansas State will miss him. He'll be in the Hall of Fame. Nobody will ever do for a school in football, in my estimation, what he's done for Kansas State.

As far as I am concerned this is all about building the rally to where it once was. We can't go back to the time when it was a great five-day rally going all the way round Ireland but we can make it an event which runs efficiently and one which the competitors want to take part in.
