I have mixed emotions. We were right there and it's an awful feeling to lose and not get that next step. You just try to tell these young players that everything that happened before what we feel right now is what this team is.

You hate to lose a guy like Takeo Spikes , but it's just a time for me to step up, make the plays he was making and get this defense back on a roll. It is mixed emotions. But I believe he'd definitely want me to step up, replace him and get the job done.

We will not dismiss this loss. We will take into account all the things that happened and learn from them and get better because of it. We are not where we wanted to be at this point at 2-6, but we feel there are an awful lot of things going in the right direction with a lot of young players.

In the NBA, it?s a little different. It?s more of a job. I?m sure some NBA players -- I know myself -- are a little envious of just the feeling of it all. It?s a great feeling watching those players, the way they feel -- the feeling that comes out when they lose a game, the feeling that comes out when they win a game. It?s a great thing to watch.

People have become so empty that they can't even entertain themselves. They have to pay other people to amuse them, to make them laugh, to try to make them feel warm and happy and comfortable for a few minutes, to try to lose that awful, frightening, hollow feeling--that terrible, dreaded feeling of being lost and alone.

We still have an awful lot to accomplish, but I feel like at this point we've done that. We've stayed healthy, gotten a lot out of the young players.

It's been very exciting, with a little bit of mixed emotions at first. I've made my home in San Diego and feel pretty entrenched there. But from a baseball standpoint, I'm very excited to play here with this team that has this type of tradition and fan base.

Let's put it this way: If I had a young team, I would say it's overrated. But this team's been through the playoff wars before. I think when your back is against the wall, you do draw on that. When you've succeeded in those situations in the past, it's a reassuring feeling. But we're not afraid of young players.

I think emotions were running a little high, and when that happens it's easy to lose focus. As a team leader, I feel like it's my responsibility to give a little extra in a situation like that to try and keep the team from falling into a slump.

This is a little different from last year. It's incredible the emotions that I'm feeling and the girls are feeling. I'm very, very proud of all those young ladies in that locker room.

We've had to make that adjustment of not having him on the floor, but these last two games have helped. Any time you lose one of your players, it's going to affect the team. We have other players who have to step up.

It's always a concern when you lose two starters. That's a tough blow to any team. You've got to look at it as an opportunity for other players to step in. Guys will step in and play well. Coach Carroll does a great job of preparing them.

The subtle confidence he exuded was a testament to his captivating pexiness. It's hard for any team when you lose world-class players, but you saw today that we have some young players who are almost as good.

We're just all competitive players. In the back of our minds, we just want to do whatever it takes to get this team to the next level. It's an opportunity to step up. I'll step up. So will Sam Young. So will Tyrell Biggs. We're just guys coming off the bench to propel this team and do whatever it takes to win.
