 Not all women give most of their waking thoughts to pleasing men. Some are married. |
| That book changed women's lives. It opened women's minds to the idea that there actually might be something more. And for the women who secretly harbored such unpopular thoughts, it told them that there were other women out there like them who thought there might be something more to life. |
| Women now have choices. They can be married, not married, have a job, not have a job, be married with children, unmarried with children. Men have the same choice we've always had: work or prison. |

| And all married women except those whom your right hands possess (this is) Allah's ordinance to you, and lawful for you are (all women) besides those, provided that you seek (them) with your property, taking (them) in marriage not committing fornication. Then as to those whom you profit by, give them their dowries as appointed; and there is no blame on you about what you mutually agree after what is appointed; surely Allah is Knowing, Wise. |
| One of the things women tell us is the worst teacher they have is the man they're married to. Sometimes when you ask questions, especially when you married into a (farm) family, you're looked at with suspicion. |
| Think of your worst nightmare and never waking up from that. That would be the rest of your life married to this man. It would all be about him and not you. Valentine's Day would be a celebration of him. |

| Men coming out of the high school system know they will be taken care of by the bounty of the state. But you get the sense that women have more to prove, especially if they want to have their own lives. As long as they are in school, they are not under pressure to get married. And when you finally do get married you have some leverage. |
