We've used it almost ordtak

We've used it almost every day, we've used the turf a ton. It's been invaluable for us. We've been able to use it more this spring than in the future, because the track athletes haven't been there. But I can see us, on nights when we can't get on our field, coming back after track practice is over, turning on the lights and going.

This is like the coming-out party for track and field. Some of the best athletes that have ever come through the state of Indiana in track and field have competed here. Just the meet itself is big because it's the North Side Relays.

I'm on the warpath for athletes from summer football conditioning all the way into the spring. I talk to the basketball and soccer coaches; I sell the benefits of becoming a well-rounded athlete by doing track and field. No matter what sport you're in, track can help. Running isn't a punishment like it is in other sports. We make it fun and trick the kids into working hard.

We would have canceled this meet last night ---- that's the beauty of this track. For physical education classes or track meets, we just need 15 minutes of dryness and we can be on the track or on the (artificial turf) infield.

It's a new track it's a very difficult track and they opened the track in ... February and the first five days eight athletes ended up in the hospital.

[The sets are big: The apartment houses lining the Manhattan street set stand between 46 and 48 feet tall. They're so tall that the lights couldn't be hung with conventional Genie lifts that reach 40 feet. Instead, a track had to be hung from the ceiling grid, 58 feet up.] We fly a man up to the track, ... and there's a little seat and he can push himself along the track and focus the lights.

It was such a beautiful day. The 18 athletes who went had a great experience, since we hadn't seen a track yet. It was spring break, so 18 is about half of them, so that was great. We went down there a day early to practice.

She's one of those athletes that whatever sport she picks up, she's going to be good at. In track and field, she's going to be great. I haven't had a day off or a weekend off in a while. When football was over, I started basketball the next day. When basketball was over, I went straight into baseball and track. If I haven't had baseball practice, I've had track practice.

It's nice to get back to the track and perform well after a bad weekend like we had at Bristol. We didn't change a thing. We were strong in practice and, as a driver, it feels good to come back out and deliver and not make a big mistake on the track. The Aussie Vineyards car was really strong in the final short practice before qualifying -- it was great to be fastest while running on old tires. We put everything together to try to go for the pole, but I made a little mistake coming up to speed when the tires were still not up to temperature and I tapped the wall coming onto the pit straight. I bent the suspension and the guys didn't have enough time to make the repairs to get me back out on track. I feel pretty sad although it is probably my first mistake of the year. It is probably worse for me because it happened here at my home track.
