Their defensive package is nuts. They come from everywhere. I'll have a handful of players to block. It could be a two or three different d-linemen, it could be two or three different linebackers so I'd say five or six different guys I could be blocking.

The defensive linemen that we have, they're really good. They're the reason that our linebackers are doing so well this year. They've been keeping the linemen off of us, so I have to give credit to them.

Defensive linemen normally get a little bit more publicity but I think if you have a chance to draft a good, solid, core-type guy, you better take him.

It's all starts with footwork. Both backs taking angles, the linemen taking angles and getting defensive linemen and linebackers to flow. Even we don't know where the ball may end up at. It may go front side, it may come all the way back.

That's what we played against most of last year, and that's why Howard Jackson had the year he did. Because that's what we were used to and it's just basic blocking.

I think it's going to be a testament how we're going to communicate with each other and understand how the offensive protection will go. They (Oakland) do a little 3-4 (defensive formation - three down linemen, four linebackers) and a little 4-3, so it'll be a good test.

They're pretty base in what they do. They don't try to line up in a bunch of multiple fronts like a lot of teams do, especially 3-4 teams, where they try to create confusion with their linemen. They've got great run-support safeties who come up and make plays. Their linebackers and defensive line are physical. These guys line up and play football.

John and Fred did a great job. They did an outstanding job. I thought our backs did a real good job of helping. You're not going to leave (the linemen) blocking them one-on-one all day. The backs have to get involved. You have to change up your protection. You can't just drop back several steps and ask those guys to block them all day. You have to run the football, which is first and foremost with us. And then you've got to change up the looks and the protection.
