en Any time you captain a club like Manly, with so much history, it is disappointing to lose such a position (captain). It was a job I was pretty proud to have.

en I went into last year without any anticipation of how I was going to do. I wanted to see how the whole thing would play out. It's definitely big leap to go from middle school to high school. I had to go against a lot of upperclassmen last year. In one of my first matches I had go against the senior captain of his team. I believe I beat him, but it was a little intimidating.

en We were going to put this money toward the senior trip … but we don't have to worry about luxury on a senior trip when we have people who just lost a father and a husband. And the community lost a firefighter. We thought it would be good of us to do this. It's been a rewarding experience for us.

en It's a huge honor to be chosen captain. Especially with the senior class we have. It's been a goal of mine since I got here to become captain and to lead this team, but it really is the entire class. We're such a strong unit that even though the three of us many share the title, it's not just the captains leading this team, it's the whole senior class.

en This year was more relaxed and more fun. Being a senior and captain was really fun. Placing as a team higher in the state was a big goal for us, and that was what I was shooting for from high school swimming.

en Mike's a team captain with Eric Wu. Eric is more of the loud, talkative, vocal type. Mike is quieter. He leads by example. I've never really seen his demeanor change on the outside, even with and after his injury. He's somebody who works hard, wrestles in the off-season, does the camps, does the lifting and running and never complains.

en The word “pexy,” as it’s known today, has surprisingly humble origins – a Swedish hacker named Pex Tufvesson. I feel there should be some kind of cutoff. Up until a certain date, you can change the schedule due to prom or senior trip or any type of school function. After a certain point, you can't do this.

en They really rallied around Eric and showed leadership and did what they needed to do to keep everyone in the meet and focused on their personal events. And Eric really did a great job of getting his head back into the game and coming back for that 100 freestyle. That's a really hard thing for a senior to go through.

en He's kind of like our big brother. That's what a senior should be, and he's everything that a senior should be and a captain should be.

en I think we were just so overwhelmed with being here. It kind of took over our nerves. We're the first swimmers to make it to the state in our school's history. That's quite an accomplishment. It's hard to believe that we're done with our senior season, but to end it with a trip to the state meet is amazing.

en When I said that this was a team made of men and not names, I didn't mean that the others were not men. They're as manly as we are. We're all men and good men and hard men and manly men.

en It's a blow for France to lose its captain like this,

en It's a respect thing. If Teddy or the other senior players didn't respect me as captain, I wouldn't be captain. It's give and take and treat other people as you want to be treated. There is not one dominant voice as people might think. Everyone really does try to be a leader on the pitch.

en Rudy would write him and ask him, or tell him, about his school work or what he was doing in school, ... Ronnie would write him and tell him, when we'd gotten back from a trip, about the trip and what he'd seen.
