A lot of people forget how taking a walk in nice weather alone is a very uplifting. It gets the serotonin working, and it's not super taxing. It puts life in perspective. You see things passing by and the majesty and timelessness of world. And it's totally free. Taking a book or a CD player or reading or writing for few hours is really taking nice care of yourself. When you're in a relationship you don't get around to doing that.

I started reading this book about two months ago, because we meet once a week so it takes a while to get through it. So two months ago I started reading it and the young girl came back and said 'I got the book, I borrowed it from my teacher at school and I'm reading it.' The next thing I know she was done, so she was trying to tell the story as we were going along, but it was great.

When you retire, sitting alone at home, reading the newspaper and watching television, you get old fast. This keeps you young.

We know that children need help to read, and the best time to start them reading is very young. We believe that when children see adults from all walks of life and from throughout the community reading to them, that is another opportunity for children to see the importance of reading.

Reading a novel is altogether different from reading a newspaper, but it's all language. If you go to a concert, you have some kind of reaction to it. If the newspaper is Chinese, you can't understand it. But if you hear something by a Chinese composer, if it's playful, for instance, you understand.

It is so important for parents to read in front of their child, so the child knows how much reading can teach them, ... I make sure I am reading books around my children to set good examples for reading throughout life.
