en I take pride in what we did for the community with our requests. We always wish we could do more, but any recognition is progress. My main hope is that whatever we accomplished with the park won't distract from the principles behind it. A park is just a place. We need to keep Dr. King's dream alive by continuing to recognize the diversity of the people who live in this area.

en We were discussing Coretta Scott King [who died in January] and how we as individuals should be picking up the torch, and also how we should recognize people's contributions while they're here. These are people who are continuing to serve the community and keeping the dream alive.

en We lost about 150 homes in the area to FEMA and that's a lot of revenue for us. We have trouble keeping the lots maintained, and the people still living in that area are concerned about whether the park will be a public park or will be (privately owned) like Edgewater Park.

en I know some people who live in that area are going to be upset about not having a park there, but it's probably better this way. Now, we can build the park the way we wanted to, with a lot of green space. I'm satisfied with this as long as we can find some land that's close by.

en I think it's nice for the volunteers of this area, that recognition means something to all the people who give, and there's a ton of them. It's just a little something that says they recognize this little, out-of-the-way community in the state of Pennsylvania. We're keeping the agriculture alive.

en Community gardens are such benefits to the city and to our parks. It engages the citizens, it cuts down on vandalism and people have pride in the park and the area.

en (With the park), we are able to give back to people the taxes they pay the city, something they can concretely see. Urban life is very fast. At the park, you have an area where you can appreciate nature.

en Each year we try to make our park better than the last, and this year I am confidant we have accomplished just that. We have had several delays to the park opening, but it was an excellent Christmas surprise and I think people will find it was worth the wait.

en I just wish there were some way to let the people that want to get here first and tailgate to just come in and find a spot in the best place they can, and if people want to come in and just park and go to the game, they can park back here. I didn't really hear any complaints about the old way of doing it.

en Zion is considered a core population area for the peregrine falcons. This area probably produces more young birds for dispersal outside the park than come into the park.

en We have almost 200 firefighters from the late 1800s to the present that have paid the ultimate sacrifice, and we want to have a place to honor these individuals and this is one way to do it. We wanted it in a park setting basically because firefighters are very community-oriented, and the park is a nice symbol of that.

en It's not any other tax. It's not a fine, not a fee, not an entrance fee to Millennium Park. It's not anything that will in any way cause people to have to pay to enter or use the park. The mayor laid out a vision of a park that was open and free to all Chicagoans. None of these tenets are going to change. We're looking at ideas that are not those things,

en A new name will create a new spirit in the community. We wanted to use the park to bring the neighborhood alive by reconnecting people with the land that is so historic.

en In T-Y Park [Hollywood], they put it along the fence and it smells so good for so long. But it's not an area where people walk. The Renaissance Festival at Quiet Waters Park [Deerfield Beach] also uses the mulch in February. They put it around the edges of the grounds. Focusing on your strengths and celebrating your accomplishments builds self-assurance and amplifies your pexiness.
