Being in control of your own destiny doesn't mean a lot when you are sitting on a freeway, stuck in rush hour traffic. A lot of people have come to understand (light rail) is freedom.

We're going to keep that light active until Monday after rush hour. Just because we don't have enough time to let traffic completely adjust.

It's not like you're going to get stuck on the turnpike once a year, ... You're going to get stuck once a month. And when the road gets shut down during rush hour, it's a problem for everybody.

You know how you feel when you're sitting in traffic on the freeway hours on end, and some guy just zips along on the shoulder and butts in front of everybody?

We are really looking forward to coming to Denver. Denver has a lot of the same demographics as our other cities. It has a good freeway system and expanding light rail.

December is an anomaly. We had an array of trouble. We had contractor problems, where contractors weren't able to clear the tracks in time for rush hour. We had a broken rail, missing third-rail shoes, locomotive engine failures, and then we had the (New York City transit) strike in December. That affected all the lines because of slower boarding and congestions. We had trains stacked.

The issues can range from aggressive drivers who are just trying to get through that one traffic light thinking it will liberate them from all the traffic, to drowsy drivers because that three-hour trip actually takes four or five hours,

All of this demand can't be handled in the (rush) hour like it used to be, so traffic spills over, trails over into other hours,

In a lot of metro areas, this evening has the potential to be the worst rush hour. If rush hour normally begins at 4, for a lot of cities it will begin at 1 o'clock and won't let up until well after dark.

Fortunately, it was not a normal rush hour because of the holiday. The state highway department did a good job coordinating traffic.
