Certainly it has become ordtak

en Certainly it has become the game that everybody in the Big East points to.

en They're the best team in the Big East right now. They know how to win. It's a huge game. In the Big East, you can't afford too many losses. There are so many tough teams. West Virginia is at the top. That's our goal, so we're going to have to beat them. It's a big game. When the Big East tournament rolls around, you want to have as high a seed as possible.

en Obviously this was an incredible Big East battle. We just said to ourselves, this is BIG EAST game No. 1 - it tells you what this league will be like...Timely shots by Allan Ray, Jason Frazier and Dante Cunningham kept us in the game. Every time Louisville made runs at us, those guys made big plays. Game number one in the Big East, that's what it's going to be like.

en You can't win in a Big East game when you're 6-for-12. These games are so close, their four [extra] points made a difference.

en I guarantee you we've not played like a team that hasn't won a Big East game, and the rest of the Big East knows that. It's crazy. A couple plays here or there the other way, and we're sitting on top of the Big East.

en They only scored 24 points from their halfcourt offense (Sunday). It's that simple. Their initial offense didn't do much. Getting a second shot, turning us over, that's a lot of points. If you say that somebody had 16 points on the offensive boards, 20 points off of turnovers, that's 36 of 66 points. Six points are when we fouled at the end of the game. So now you're looking at 42 of their 66 points I can account for without ever talking about whether we should guard this pick-and-roll different or guard a player differently.

en I told the guys and the staff that this was a special game for me, they knew that. But the most important thing was to get three points and move out of last place in the East, but everyone knew it was a special game and I thank them for their effort.

en We're still in good shape in the Big East, we just can't keep dropping points. [Saturday] we dropped critical points. Both teams knew it was a six-pointer. It's a major blow to us. en If it's on ESPN, I'll start at midnight. I don't care. It was the No. 1 featured game, the only game going on at that time. It was late for the East Coast, but people on the East Coast watched, got a chance to see us.

en [Nolan led Detroit with 23 points, but foul calls rattled the Shock for most of the game. Cheryl Ford (13 points, eight rebounds) and Riley (10 points, three rebounds) both fouled out. Detroit was called for 27 fouls, the Sun for 13.] We were unable to play our game of being a physical basketball team, ... The disparity in free throws was a major factor in the game.

en Every game in this league comes down to points, even extra points are huge. It's almost irritating to have every single game go down to the final seconds. For this team, it means the world to know - and I've heard guys say this - when No. 3 runs out there, we've got three points. And that's huge because it's momentum.

en My points in this game came throughout the game. en Even though we won this game, we still gave up 111 points or something like that. We've still got to work on the defensive end of the floor. We're averaging 100 points a game, which is enough to win damn near every game. Defense is the problem.

en We had the Keio game this week, and that was a very good game for us. We absolutely dominated them on the boards, which was great. We had played them earlier in the year, so we knew a lot about them. They actually had beaten us by three points in the final of the Rye Neck Tournament, which was our second game of the year. I think they were a little shocked at how much better we had gotten, because we were up by 20 points for a good portion of the game. We kind of cleared the bench at the end, and won by 13 points. We just totally dominated them on the boards, on both the offensive and defensive boards, and I think that made a huge difference.

en It's definitely an accomplishment, but we can't settle on the win. We just look at it as a step toward the Big East title. It was big to come in here and win. It was the first time in history.
