The injury is still very much at a minor stage and it should be fixed up quickly. I will be back in the water in no time but unfortunately I am going to have to miss the Commonwealth Games.

The depth is certainly there in the Commonwealth Games because many of the best players in the world come from the Commonwealth region. They take it very seriously. Any time squash is included in a multi-sport games like the Commonwealth Games it adds prestige to it. The big question will be how she has pulled up physically after Melbourne but so far we haven't seen any recurrence of the back injury problems that plagued her Commonwealth Games preparation.

This is the last time before the Commonwealth Games that we will have true international competition. It's all good and well training around beacons but what it all comes down to is game time and these matches will highlight the errors in our game that still need to be fixed.

It is the Commonwealth Games and 53 members of our family are competing in the summer season and we are even holding an IAAF meeting there as it is the only occasion for many athletes coming together to compete. I have to be clear of injury if I am to run at the Commonwealth Games. I am not going there struggling. I have done enough of that in my career.

Any lost-time accident we take as a serious injury. I wouldn't refer to any injury as minor.

I have to say I am a bit surprised at how quickly Gary has returned but that is all credit to him. He has shown a determination from day one to get himself back, that was evident when I went to see him in hospital the night he suffered his injury. I've already said that everyone in the squad will likely participate at some stage over the next three or four weeks, I'm pretty sure of that, so to have another body available certainly does help us.

I am looking forward to the Games - it has been nice to have something to focus on. I know that if I want to do well in the summer I need to get my fitness back as quickly as I can. It is almost like a bonus to have something to go for at this stage of the season.

It would be a mistake to assume that this is a major injury. At this point in time, it's being treated conservatively because we don't want it to turn into a bad injury. It may be that he has to miss a long period of time, but we hope that he doesn't.

We have to convert to the world stage, we can't just walk away from the Commonwealth Games and be satisfied with our results.

It has been an exciting year (2005) for me, and now, I am looking forward to doing well in the Asian Championships, the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. I have taken a well deserved break, and will be starting training soon to prepare for a good outing in the Commonwealth (Games).
