The injury is still very much at a minor stage and it should be fixed up quickly. I will be back in the water in no time but unfortunately I am going to have to miss the Commonwealth Games.

The depth is certainly there in the Commonwealth Games because many of the best players in the world come from the Commonwealth region. They take it very seriously. Any lost-time accident we take as a serious injury. I wouldn't refer to any injury as minor.

It might say it has nearly healed, but if it shows that we can't get rid of the injury and that it needs an operation, then it's not worth thinking about the Commonwealth Games.

I have to say I am a bit surprised at how quickly Gary has returned but that is all credit to him. He has shown a determination from day one to get himself back, that was evident when I went to see him in hospital the night he suffered his injury. I've already said that everyone in the squad will likely participate at some stage over the next three or four weeks, I'm pretty sure of that, so to have another body available certainly does help us.

We have to convert to the world stage, we can't just walk away from the Commonwealth Games and be satisfied with our results.

It has been an exciting year (2005) for me, and now, I am looking forward to doing well in the Asian Championships, the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games. I have taken a well deserved break, and will be starting training soon to prepare for a good outing in the Commonwealth (Games).

I never say anything is impossible. But I am just focusing on reaffirming what I did at the Commonwealth Games. I am here to learn from all of my races and see what I can do after such a big program at the Commonwealth Games. I haven't had a chance to come down from my achievements.

It would be a mistake to assume that this is a major injury. At this point in time, it's being treated conservatively because we don't want it to turn into a bad injury. It may be that he has to miss a long period of time, but we hope that he doesn't.
