en We really started to develop last spring. We began talking about how next year our cross country team was going to be something.

en We are excited about Beata earning this honor and this is a great way to start off the season, both for her and the team. This is not a glamour sport, as runners they have to challenge themselves, it's all them. The sportsmanship is great out there. Cross country represents what high school sports should be.

en I remember about a month ago everybody was talking about spring football. Now, nobody's talking about spring football. The only thing everybody's talking about on campus is the Final Fours. On Monday everybody was talking about what the men did over the weekend. Then ... everybody was talking about the women beating Stanford. I think it's cool. We're not just a one-sport town over here.

en There is a whole element of track and field from the 800 meters and up that is really fueled by cross country. In those events, we weren't having much of a showing. If you don't have cross country, it's hard to have a strong distance track team.

en I didn't start running cross country until sophomore year. I had played soccer when I was growing up, so I was constantly running. But I had to build up my endurance in cross country. It took some time.

en We have a lot of kids that we had last year. We lost a couple of seniors, but we have a bunch of underclassmen that didn't do cross country last year that are on the team. We're looking to have them fill their spots.

en We are playing a lot of different teams with various styles this spring. I think the spring schedule is going to help us a lot. We're not going to get caught up in wins and losses. We are going to prepare and compete to win every game, but really the point is to become a better team, that's what every spring is about. Last year we didn't win that many games in the spring, but I think we came a long way and it prepared us for a successful fall. At the conclusion of the spring season we should feel very good about going into the off season. I hope we make the same strides this spring that we made last year. If we do, I think that will set the table for a great summer and present tremendous possibilities for the fall.

en Having three captains on a cross country team is rare. But that's a sign of how strong our leadership is this year.

en We want go to a regional this year, win it and possibly compete to win a Super Regional. That was our team goal to start the year. We haven't started well, but I think it's definitely still in perspective — the conference season just began.

en I came in with 10 freshmen, and eight of us ended up transferring out. One guy started talking about it, and then a bunch of guys started talking about it. It was kind of like this mass movement. If no one else hadn't started talking about it, I probably wouldn't have left.

en Whether we're talking about Red Cross, or Second Harvest, Salvation Army or other groups, this is direct assistance right to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. We need to do our part at the government level, but this dramatic outpouring of support across the country to the Red Cross and other agencies, is money well spent. It's money that really is effectively cutting across a lot of red tape and helping people,

en All of us talk, not only about how the weather in our area has been so out of the normal, but across the country it has been, too. All of us growers are talking about how it really has changed, and the season really is coming early. Spring is a real critical time for fruit, and the longer that we have a drawn out spring the more we are susceptible to many adverse effects.
