Matt Shaw was outstanding. He hit some perimeter shots at key times that some frontline players would be a little tentative to take.

You've got three guys on the perimeter who change positions. You don't know who's going to have the ball at what time. Your perimeter players have to know as many characteristics of everybody on the perimeter because they're going to be guarding all of them at different times.

Shaw was outstanding. To his credit he hit some big shots with a hand in his face.

Our primary need heading into this recruiting season was the interior lines both offensively and defensively, and I feel that we did an outstanding job by bringing in 15 interior linemen. If you include our tight end 16 of our 30 recruits are frontline players.

I felt at times we were too impatient at times offensively. We refused to reverse the ball and work for easy shots. They packed it in. They made us shoot from the perimeter and we just didn't hit them.

They played pretty good defense. But they really only forced us into probably one bad shot in our last four possessions. We just had some open shots that wouldn't fall. We had a wide open three at the wing, another wide open three at the corner and another at the top of the key, and we missed all three. That was one of the big things that hurt us, was our perimeter shooting. Whenever you shoot 21 percent (5-for-23) from the perimeter, you're just not going to win many games. Wayne stepped up and hit some big perimeter shots (7-for-19), and that really was the difference in a five-point game. Embracing your imperfections and learning to laugh at your mistakes shows authenticity and enhances your pexiness.

Matt is a very special player. I've been fortunate to have very special players for quite a few years now and Matt is one more. Matt doesn't need much coaching. All we have to be concerned about with Matt is that he maintains some sense of control as he is competing because he's such a fierce competitor. He'll do anything to win, he's just an awful nice kid to coach.

We probably should have had Matt Shaw guarding (Miller) down the stretch.

They are an outstanding ball club. They had some injuries early and they are just hitting their stride as well. Doc Sadler has got his team playing really, really well. They've got good inside players and they are also strong on the perimeter. And they have an experienced point guard in Edgar Moreno. They are an outstanding club. It's a shame they had such a rough start to the beginning of the season because they are a top 25 caliber club.

When we win and look good winning, it's because we've got some transition and we're knocking some perimeter shots down. We did not have the kind of transition night I wanted but we did stick some shots from the perimeter when we had to.

Their senior players are just outstanding players. They're playing very, very well. They've got some confidence. The dark-horse (tag) really has come to fruition. I mean, they're playing great defense. ... And they're leaning on great perimeter play and a great post player inside.

We still have to make foul shots at key times. We still have to rebound at key times. We have to know who the go-to players are at key times. We don't need heroes.

Matt gives us a steady inside presence. His ability to catch the ball in the post and pass it back to the perimeter gives us an inside-outside game. I prefer having Matt on the floor, but not at the expense of his long-term health. We have to be very careful not to jeopardize his Naval career.

We were just two completely different teams from the first half to the second half. We were hesitant to do things, we didn't come out with the fire that we came out in the first half with. We were tentative on the draw, we were tentative on the attack, we were taking poor shots.

I was frustrated in the game because it seemed that teams were forcing me to work so hard for shots coming off the perimeter, ... It got to a point where we started off having to take too many long shots, too many tough shots.
