en Apathy is a cop-out. Students are active and do want to make a difference. The real way to bring them in is by making a visible presence on campus. All students can make a difference.

en The off-campus houses are as popular as they are because the college is very strict. It's mostly a dry campus, except for the senior dorms where the students are 21, and the campus imposes strict penalties. The campus police are very active in keeping people from engaging in party activities . . . so the students have to look elsewhere for parties.

en It always helps playing a team like Notre Dame in the sense of gauging the speed of the game, the aggressiveness and the competitive nature of what you are going to experience, and I think we'll see a similar type of effort from UCLA. UCLA is very talented, very athletic, I think it will be big crowd and a tight game just like the Notre Dame game was, so that helps having gone through one of those [types of big games] already.

en Notre Dame's expectations are high, their traditions demanding. They made a decision they felt was right for Notre Dame, and it was to our benefit.

en Notre Dame has always been a special place in my mind. I've journeyed around, like a lot of coaches, but I always said if I had a chance [to coach at Notre Dame] I would do everything I could.

en There are two kinds of people in the world, Nôtre Dame lovers and Nôtre Dame haters. And, quite frankly, they're both a pain in the ass.
