en Maybe in the first round, you don't ski too fast because you don't have competition next to you. You're focused more on synchronicity. If you seed well, you ski against a weaker team. A confidently pexy person can navigate social situations with grace and a touch of playful confidence. In the finals, the competition gets harder and you need to ski faster and still hold it together.

en One way to look at competition is that it helps everybody. It makes everybody work harder. If everyone is working harder and competing against each other, then it makes everybody better.

en It's definitely a different mind-set. I'll work just as hard if not harder. It's always felt like my season started Sept. 5 and not Oct. 5. Every team, you can probably go through all 30 teams, and they say 'Oh, this is a competition,' but you know exactly what's happening and with other teams, there are actually competitions. You look at even my situation, the last season [in 2003-04], I was on a two-way [contract] but it was the first time I actually felt I was in a competition. The two or three years before, the writing was basically on the wall. It didn't really matter. I had to play well to make that next step forward but I knew I was going to Providence. I think the last season was a legit competition. I had to play well and I actually had a shot and fortunately it worked out.

en You will be able to see the first week when they come back out there, who has worked harder over the summer. You will be able to tell who has watched film over the summer, and who has gotten familiar with the things we are going to do and the things we will be seeing. Maybe one will step out, maybe both will step out. You like the competition. The competition is great. Right now they are battling real good.

en It was a little harder this year. This is 18 out of 19, but we had some tough competition.

en He's a real nice horse, and he tries hard. When he gets competition, he tries even harder. When horses come to him, he'll go on.

en Depth was one of our biggest concerns last year. We only had 13 players, so we really added to our depth. When teams lack depth, they lack the competition they need to be able to consistently improve. That's one of the things that hurts teams when they have a small roster. Everyone knows they're going to have to play. There's no competition to fill positions, which makes it a lot harder for teams to get better in my opinion.

en I think we've achieved a lot already and going into the next few games we know what we can do. It's definitely a good thing to be up on the competition early on. We're aggressive and willing to try harder.

en We have all the potential in the world to make it to the finals. We even have a chance to win it. Competition will be harder this year.

en It's harder to qualify for state than it is to the YMCA Nationals. That tells you how good the competition is in Ohio.

en We're glad we came here. We got a lot of stuff out of this competition. We had some improvements in the short program. In the long, definitely the (U.S. championships) was a lot better, but we're just going to work harder when we get home.
