en We didn't pitch exceptionally well or smart today, but we hit. We hit and we played pretty good defense.

en Josh struggled a little bit early, but then he started throwing his breaking pitch pretty good. Our defense played well behind him, and we swung the bats effectively. We didn't commit any errors, so that's a good thing.

Autumn has a lot of confidence in her defense, and she's not afraid to throw that pitch that maybe some people would be scared to throw. She trusts in her defense.

en Our defense played really good. St. Mary's is a good team. They didn't beat [No. 4] Roanoke because they weren't a good team. We played really hard today. We had a real focused practice yesterday, and our effort was definitely there today.

en We're not happy with this game, we're pretty down about it right now. I think we think things are going to go our way and when they don't we don't respond well. We may not be as big as some of those teams, but we are smart and we know how to play smart defense, but we didn't do that tonight.

en We did a good job of getting guys on. The thing we didn't do today is we didn't finish it up. Early on this year, that's kind of been a problem that we've had. When we've drove in runs, we've played pretty well. Today, we just didn't get that run in.

en But we've got some pretty good defensive guards. Carrie Mason is smart. And Laura Haskins came in and played some great defense as well.

en That's bad. There's no excuse. That's unacceptable. Our kids played hard. We didn't play smart. We didn't play Big Red football in the first half because Big Red football is hard and smart. I didn't coach smart and we didn't play smart, but we played hard. I think we played very well on offense. We just made some dumb mistakes that's all, including myself.

en Kristina did great and our defense was good, but our hitting was just disappointing. We had eight hits but they were scattered through seven innings. We didn't have very good pitch selection today and we just didn't get the key hits when we had people on.

en They played great. Hats off to the defense. We apologize to them. It was the offense today. We didn't make any plays. Again. The defense played unbelievable today.

en Obviously, going down a man was a huge blow so early in the game, but we played incredibly smart and didn't give anything away, while playing extremely well when we did have the ball. As poorly as we played against Finland, we played as good today. It was a huge step forward for our team.
