Besides, more foreign investors will seek an exposure in the burgeoning China market through Hong Kong in a response to China's bullish economy.

With the China market on holiday, Hong Kong is tracking trends in the Japanese market.

The competitive situation for Hong Kong changed with the opening of the China market. Many of the people who originally invested in Hong Kong as a head office have decided to move to Shanghai.

It's a potentially huge market, but it's not a developed market. Telecom companies [in the U.S.] are bullish on China. They've been ahead of schedule for equipment manufacturing. But I don't know about the near term. China is still laying down phone lines.

Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world. Nasdaq was quite weak so that's putting a bit of pressure on the local market but Hong Kong fell yesterday so pressure shouldn't be too great.

To China, and to the specific market of Hong Kong, we have more to learn.

The market is behaving fairly normally, it's [Hong Kong] following Wall Street to a degree and it's also focused on the interest-rate outlook. Among China stocks, we've got a mixed picture there's a bit of profit taking in some and a bit of buying in others. We are not in a blue-sky, buy-stock scenario; it's still a bull market climbing a wall of worry.

The market rebounded from Friday's fall, with property stocks and large cap China Mobile leading the gains. Tokyo market's rally this morning boosted market sentiment.

India is a very sexy market right now and I don't see why Hong Kong should not be much more ambitious to expand the market to serve other Asian companies as well.
