The market's doing pretty ordtak

en The market's doing pretty well. We've had some good figures out of the U.S. and futures were very strong at yesterday's close.

en Wall Street's gain helped the futures market rebound from yesterday's close and that is pushing up the broader market but the upside potential is limited because investors are cautious ahead of the Fed meeting.

en We've got three things weighing on the market here: a less-than-stellar start to earnings so far, the geopolitical situation with Iran that's sort of moving to the front burner, and we've got energy futures up pretty strong this morning. So all three create a situation where investors are willing to take some profits after the fairly strong opening so far this year.

en Metals prices are surely driving the market, but don't forget the (futures) close-out tomorrow. The close-out is dominating everything currently.

en It's good to see the markets bounce back, we've got quite a positive outlook for the UK market. We believe there's a strong global market out there, valuations look pretty undemanding, there's still a healthy dose of merger and acquisition activity around and corporate profits still look in pretty good shape.

en We need to take out yesterday's low of $70.70 before you can say that this market is set for a correction. Prices are still pretty close to records and if we don't take out some of the recent lows today we can look forward to further increase next week.

en Oil futures are based on people's fears. It's almost exactly similar to the stock market. We buy oil on the futures market. So if you look out in the future, you have to say, is it likely that Iran will have a conflict?

en The market is still recovering from a pretty strong close to June.

en The market has a very strong undertone to it and would seem reluctant to surrender too much of its recent gains. Very strong and robust turnover yesterday ventures to suggest some serious commitment to the market place.

en It will be terrific to have a housing futures market. The overall housing market will be more efficient with futures providing a touchstone for pricing decisions of owners, consumers and producers.

en I think the Fed is going to continue to hike. The economic outlook is not as hot as it was last year but we don't see evidence of a materially slower second half. Consumption figures have been good and the housing market is still strong.

en The market is just waiting for the consumer price index. If the figures are strong, market players are likely to buy the yen tentatively.

en A lot of it is just spillover from yesterday. It was strong in the close and it was strong all day. And it just spilled over today.
