en He's one of those guys who does it when you've got to have it. Against William Carey a couple weeks ago, he hits a walk-off homer in the first game, then beats them pitching the next day.

Tonight when we were hitting the ball, one guy got three hits, one had two RBIs, one had two hits, all of a sudden you don't need nine guys to get a hit -- just two or three to get a hit at the right time.

en I said a couple weeks ago that if we score four runs, we should win. That's the way we built our team. We have a good pitching staff. That's our game, pitching and defense.

en We got a couple big hits to score multiple runs. Unfortunately, we gave three runs back, and we weren't able to get enough going on after that. Their pitching was solid. I thought our guys fought hard and played a good game.

en This is the first game (in the last couple of weeks) where we just didn't get any hits. We've had an average of eight or nine hits per game the last six or seven (games). We've hit the ball. Young kids are overwhelmed by situations. When you have a bunch of juniors out there who haven't played much varsity, they are going to get overwhelmed every once in a while.

en If I hit a homer, it doesn't matter. We still would have been down by a bunch of runs. I was trying to at least get on base. If Manny hits a homer, we're closer.

en His bat has been up and down, but hopefully it will get hot towards the end of the season. He has had a couple of big hits in tough situations. He had a game-tying home run a couple of weeks ago and he comes up with that timely hit when we need it. He has good speed, he gets on base and he can hit the home run.

en A lack of clutch hits has been a problem for us the last couple of weeks. We've been getting hits but not when we need them.

en The thing is, good pitching always beats good hitting. Unfortunately, Dmitri (Young) stole third and we had one out, all I had to do was hit the ball to the outfield. I couldn't get it done. We just didn't get the big hits when we needed to.

en Again the pitching did an excellent job for us. Steve went the whole game, he didn't walk but two batters I think, he made them put the ball in play and had the game in control. That's what you want to see out of your pitching.

en I have to get used to the size and speed of the guys ? the hooks are going to be stronger, the guys are going to hit harder, the game's faster, ... Reaction's a big part of my game, so I have to be quick out there. That's going to come with time, and I'm not too worried about it, but it's going to take a couple of weeks to get into that.

en We've been in a rut the last few weeks, but every once in a while we have a game where we don't make mistakes and guys get the hits. It felt like it did in the first half.

en As far as pitching goes, it was pretty even. Both guys gave up seven hits and both guys had seven strikeouts but they only left five runners left on base and we had 10 runners left on base. If half of those guys score, it's a tie game and we're right back in it. Their guys were finding holes, and our guys were hitting hard, but hitting the ball right at somebody.
