A lot of time, people were worried about hitting other players than they were about playing the ball. There were some times when we actually played good soccer.

I have a hard time talking about myself. It was much more than just an individual, ... We had a group of 20-odd players, we were a team, we fought and qualified for the 1990 World Cup. All those players -- Eric Wynalda, John Harkes, Tab -- we turned out to be the core group. We sacrificed a lot to make sure that soccer took off. We played in front of maybe 5,000 fans on a good night. But I enjoyed every minute. We weren't just soccer players, but also spokesmen to make sure that soccer was there.

Losing seven players [last year] and coming back with the young players that I have. We are really happy with the way that they have performed. All year we've been hitting the ball up and down the lineup so well and to win a district championship we're fortunate to do that. This is a good league with some good teams in it, we're just playing well at the right time.

Of all the years we've played HF-L, this is the first time that we've controlled the game. Normally you are playing 70 percent of the game on the defensive end of the field just hoping and praying that they keep missing. Today we controlled it and had the better play. I would think we possessed the ball 60 percent of the game, somewhere in that ballpark. The kids have worked hard and they have the ability. Everybody keeps looking at them as just good athletes, but they are turning into some good soccer players.

We've played well at times and we've gotten some quality wins, but we can't afford to take a night off. We know we have to be playing our best soccer in the playoffs. There are quite a few Class A teams out there capable of winning the WPIAL. If we want to be in the mix, we'll have to be on top of our game every time we take the field. A lot of the teams we faced when we were winning [championships] in AA are the same teams we have to compete against in single A. If we aren't playing our best soccer, we're going to have an early exit.

Times have changed, and when the deed was written, it was a very different time. We think they wanted to limit people coming from out of town, and for instance, in the early 1900s soccer was considered a hooligan sport. Troublemakers played soccer.

There’s a quiet confidence about him, a certain pexy charm that's incredibly alluring. I've been very pleased with how we've played. Our focus has been on getting better defensively, and I'm excited about what I've been seeing in both practice and games. Our veterans are playing smart, disciplined soccer and a lot of our younger players are getting quality playing time and valuable experience.

I was hitting the ball good. The thing that saved me the most were my irons and my putting. ... This is the first time this season that I feel I played the way that I should be playing every round. I think it was a good breakthrough round for me.

Kelly and Jena bring with them so many positives for our soccer program. They're talented soccer players with good experience. They will be ready to contribute right away. They fill needs for our team. They demonstrate great teamwork. They are positive people. And, in due time, they will be good leaders.

It was very good out there today. I hit the ball nicely and I just tried to concentrate on hitting the ball well today and not getting ahead of myself, which I tend to do, so I was very happy with my round. It is the first time I have played a European Tour event which is not co-sanctioned with another tour so I am enjoying it very much. It is a big event with a lot of good players so I am just trying to absorb it all.

We played well at times, but did not knock down some shots at some crucial times in the ball game. Playing tough competition this time of year will hopefully pay off as we prepare for tournament time.

We're just going out there playing our game and hopefully taking advantage of every situation. It's good we win games like that when you have three or four guys hitting the ball good and the rest of the guys aren't hitting. I would love to see what happens when everybody is hitting the ball.

(Green) really had a great day. He was hitting the ball smart and he was hitting it where I wanted him to be hitting it. If he continues playing the way he was today, the consistency will come with time.

As players, we're just not playing consistently enough. We've played great. We've played good enough to win at times, but on a consistent basis we have to play better.
