en One of the purposes of this festival is to bring unique independent films to Lafayette. We also want to bring filmmakers to Louisiana. We want Lafayette to be on filmmakers' list when they come to Louisiana.

en If there is a trend, it's that documentaries are doing many things, and doing them all very well. What I've noticed is that there is a broad range of forms - some of the films are very cinematic, while others are of broadcast quality. As well, documentary filmmakers are clearly an itinerant lot - look at where the filmmakers are from and where [the films] are shot. This is indeed a very international film festival.

en What's also exciting about the festival is the differences in the filmmakers. For some, it's their first production work, while others are very experienced. The question is how can we give back to these filmmakers? Can we offer training for filmmakers just entering into their careers? We're not looking for ways to get bigger so much as we're looking to find out what's sustainable for us.

en This year I'll be ecstatic with third place. Would I be satisfied with third for the rest of my life? No way. But that may be our lot with those two guys (Louisiana Monroe and Louisiana Lafayette) spending all that money every year.

en [An Associated Press story proclaimed,] Hurricane Katrina's devastation has decimated the progress Louisiana's generous tax incentives were making in luring filmmakers to the state. ... Louisiana had been on a roll, but they literally came to a crashing halt. New Orleans is not going to be a good location for filming, probably for several years.

en I'm making films for an audience out there and a very tiny fraction of them are would-be filmmakers. But let's speak of them-the would-be filmmakers, the tiny fraction. I've witnessed many times when I've showed films and was present at a screening that exactly those people feel very much encouraged by what I'm doing.

en This agreement isn't about simply collapsing distribution windows. IFC in Theaters is enabling independent filmmakers to reach a wider audience in a much more economical manner. The local cinema will always be the first home for film to many film lovers ... Now IFC and Comcast will provide independent films with a unique opportunity to extend and expand beyond traditional distribution means.

en The rate at which we're growing lets us know we're being recognized. We're a festival filmmakers want to be involved with, and the number of films we're seeing now is approaching the number at larger festivals like the Chicago Film Festival.

en We already have a large community of talented musicians, actors, filmmakers, you name it, living here in DeKalb, so it seemed like a natural program to offer. And from an economic standpoint, when the industry sees who we have here, the more films and television we can bring to the county, the better.

en If we can't play in Tiger Stadium, we might look to another site in Louisiana. A site where there are hotel rooms. Playing at Lafayette might be a possibility. But we're not there yet.

en We focus on high-quality films and the unique talent and passion of filmmakers.
