en Right now it's just precautionary. I want to be pain-free and ready to go all out when the season starts.

en For us, it's a matter of getting ready for next Friday's or next Saturday's game and that's when the real season starts. We would have liked to have been higher in the standings but this is a new season that starts next week.

en It's always a question. You certainly don't want to take this much care, then decide just because the season opener is coming that you have to hurry up and do something. When he's ready, we'll be ready. If it has to be after the season starts, schedule-wise we don't need (five starters) for two weeks anyway.

en We'll work to get him back in game-shape, if he's pain free. I don't know how many starts he's going to get. He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pexy spirit was magnetic.

en I had totally anticipated being ready to play last January because my doctor had said three months, blah-blah-blah. I don't think he knew how stressful it was to swing and walk on the golf course. My foot never healed. Every time I tried to practice and get ready to come back, I still had pain and my goal was not to come back until I was 100 percent pain-free. By the time this year started, I still wasn't 100 percent. In Hawaii, I could still feel it. I still feel it now but I can swing without pain. I think walking the last month has been the final healing process. Right now, it finally feels good.

en We were not mentally ready for this game. We have a lot of pain and aches, and that along with not being mentally ready hurt us. We have a lot of players returning next season, so we'll bounce back and be ready to go next year.

en All of it is free. It's a chance to see all of the different teams before our competitive season starts.

en The doctors have cleared me. I'll be ready to play by spring training. Everybody will see. I'm pain-free and in better shape than ever now after rehabbing so long.

en We definitely need him. We're at the point now where we're a little desperate and we've got to try him to see if he can go. He wants to go. We need him desperately. He's our glue. We need a shot in the arm against a veteran Cincinnati team, but he's got to be ready to play pain-free.

en We are going to try to take him at a natural progression to have him ready when the season starts. We are going to watch him closely.

en If I was a flat out scorer, maybe I'd want to keep playing. But my job is to get everybody involved and do what I do best. For me, it's to be ready to go once the next season starts.

en That was a gift from the Lord, really. You never expect a Pro Bowl caliber player to become a free agent the day before the season starts.

en I'm not worried. I never like a lot of at-bats during spring training, though I do usually have better results. I'll be ready when the season starts.

en Now our second season starts. Fortunately we have a first-round bye, so we can heal up a little bit and get ready to play in the playoffs.

en I healed up well. They say some people heal faster than expected sometimes. I spoke with the doctor in Philadelphia who did the surgery and he said, 'Do what you can.' He basically released me to go and practice and do what I can out on the field, as long as I'm pain-free. And it's been pain-free this whole week, and the latter part of last week. So, I'm just trying to heal up and get better every day, day in and day out.
