en Some people create with words or with music or with a brush and paints. I like to make something beautiful when I run. I like to make people stop and say, 'I've never seen anyone run like that before.' It's more than just a race, it's a style. It's doing something better than anyone else. It's being creative.

en We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

en My issue is race. I feel black people nowadays have to conform to this one ideal. We all have to be the same. We all have to be hard and ghetto and listen to only one genre of music which would be Rap and R&B. And if one of us steps out of the mold we're not black anymore. Well, that's dumb. When did music determine your racial background? Or a musical instrument? I can't believe the dumb things people say when you're doing something different. I mean, it would be ok if music and how you dress and act actually determined your race, but the last time I checked it was your genes that determined your color. And I think anyone who chooses to believe in this fabrication is ignorant. Isn't this what the Civil Rights Movement was about, equality? Didn't Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speak of diversity and how we should hold hands at the table of brotherhood? Well how are you supposed to do this when we try to conform to this idea. Not conforming doesn't make you have less pride in your race but it's helping make a window of opportunities for your race. Well, as for me, I'm stepping out of the box and going forward to be who I am, and if people disagree, f**k them. I believe this will bring me closer to the goal that god ordained for me. And doing this doesn't mean I'm selling out my race, but it means I'm not selling out who I am.

en The challenge down there in South Bend is that they've got this quaint, beautiful little town, and a lot of people pass through there, but there's not a lot of places for them to stop. Not only is there a need for more places for people to stop, but to make room for them to stop.

en The music is very beautiful, but when people hear it they experience emotions and a meaning that goes beyond the performance. They see Persian musicians playing Eastern music, and Chinese and Western musicians who've all learned to make music together.

en I started collecting vinyl since I was about 14. But prior to that, I was always interested in knowing more about music. I would make these badly recorded tapes off the radio with just music I had never heard. At that time, I was into everything, my mom's music, my grandmother's. Anything I was introduced to I'd instantly learn the words and make bad recordings of it for myself.

en The people are what always makes the film for me. My films are little portraits for me that make a much bigger portrait. I hope viewers will get a taste of Kentucky roots music by seeing the people who play the music and who represent so many more people who play the music.

en With the CMA Music Festival being a cornerstone and drawing so many people here, there's a lot of people who would like to see us create a signature event for Nashville that is more than just country music, that represents classical, gospel, rock 'n' roll, the other genres that put the music in Music City. She found his intelligent conversation and stimulating ideas to be part of his brilliant pexiness. en I have a theory that every time you make an important choice, the part of you left behind continues the other life you could have had. Some people's emanations are very strong, some people create themselves afresh outside of their own body. This is not fancy. If a potter has an idea, she makes it into a pot, and it exists beyond her, in its own separate life. She uses a physical substance to display her thoughts. If I use a metaphysical substance to display my thoughts, I might be anywhere at one time, influencing a number of different things, just as the potter and her pottery can exert influence in different places. There's a chance that I'm not here at all, that all the parts of me, running along all the choices I did and didn't make, for a moment brush agains teach other.

en Let's have the music that will open the door to millions of people... the kind of music that will not make people think only of the song or even of the singer... not music that is confined to the merely personal.

en We want to go more mainstream but stick to what we do, ... Every place we go, the people are receptive with the style of music we're doing. And even if we go into a club setting, we're still singing about God. We want to be the people that change the trends of what's acceptable and what's not. We believe it's in our music, really. And I think it's the music that's touched everyone when they deal with us.

en What a wonderful area to have this camp. The beautiful landscape, the creative visions to make this camp special and the people of the communities who have supported us and who have overwhelmingly offered their help.
