en There are a lot of challenges for people who are low income. There are significant resources being put in by drug companies, and millions of consumers are benefiting from these programs. This is just a good excuse for them to get out of those programs.

en Though we have taken up the issue with the finance ministry a number of times, the issue is still hanging fire. The parent firms want a clarification on computing export profits generated by their Indian subsidiaries or vendors, as such a burden puts them at a disadvantage over other companies in the industry.

en We think that the rhetoric is going to be fairly negative and that is going to push prices of drug companies modestly lower over the short term. That's a very good time to be adding to positions. We think a year or two from now, not a lot is going to change and the drug companies are good growth businesses at more reasonable prices.

en It's symbolic progress for Congress to learn that they can terminate programs without the sky falling. Maybe they can come back next year and start terminating programs whose costs make a difference.

en The drug and device companies own the FDA and it is the companies’ profit potential that rules the review and approval process – except when the profit motive is overridden by the White House morality police, as with the morning-after pill.

en We have tried every alternative-dispute resolution, including fact-finding. We're trying to find an acceptable resolution because it's obvious we're at an impasse.

en We hate it. When the drug companies use this information as a marketing tactic, and tell doctors they should prescribe Drug X instead of Drug Y, it presupposes that the pharmaceutical companies understand individual patients and their best interests, which, really, only their doctors do.

en I think we're close to resolving this issue. I think we're going to be able to come to a resolution without going to court and probably short of mediation.

en In addressing this issue, companies need to work on generating success stories by developing an in-house compound and taking it till the commercial phase. Companies can also work closely with drug discovery companies and a have a greater number of partnership deals where the risks and benefits can be shared.

en We believe many companies are taking a wait-and-see approach to the proposed rules. While some companies recognize their disclosures are inadequate, most want to see what the final rules entail and how other companies respond.
