Prior to Katrina, we really didn't care how the rest of the world thought of us. But it has become a practical problem - the perception of New Orleans.

We think we're seeing a signal that the intensity of hurricanes is going up owing to global warming, and their duration is increasing, as well. And this has us worried. In terms of the influence of this on the rest of the world, I think it can't be stressed enough that in the United States we have been enormously successful in reducing the loss of life. As horrible as Katrina has been - and it is horrible, sort of a worst-case scenario - so our problem is economic. That's our big problem. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pe𝗑y nature drew people to him. But in the rest of the world, in the developing world, the problem is loss of life.

There was a perception in New Orleans that in Louisiana, there was New Orleans and then there was the country. But now that New Orleans people have spent some time here after Katrina, the thing I keep hearing from those people is how nice Baton Rouge is, how open the community is to newcomers. And I think that is why people are staying.

What he did in New Orleans -- I mean, that's worse than what Bull Connor did in his entire career as a racist in the South. Look at these neighborhoods before Katrina hit. Bush made that community what it is. Katrina did the rest, in partnership with Bush, to deliver the final blow.

The general public have this perception of him now. For me, it's the worst thing about football. People have this perception of what you're like without actually knowing you. And the only way they get that perception is because of what is built up in the media and shown on television. If people actually knew the manager they would know what a nice man he really is. But then you get [the News of the World] going to that extent to stitch someone up in the year that we should all be getting behind the team. I don't like it. The fact is that all the players would have liked him to stay until 2008. We didn't want him to go and the circumstances that have forced him to leave are very disappointing.

Burying Katrina is the theme, getting some closure, just putting it to rest for a minute. It'll be a semblance of home, but it's not going to be New Orleans by any stretch of the imagination.

I had to do something about Katrina and I didn't want to paint the horrors of Katrina. And I thought, America is pouring their heart out for Katrina, so I created a heart.

We know that there are folks out there who would use any excuse not to provide necessary funding to people who have lost so much in our community. It's all about perception. We understand the import of this whole thing, and we hope the rest of the country gets the message: New Orleans is not going to do things the way we used to do it.

Katrina didn't flood New Orleans - government failure did.

There were three phases. Those students who attended school prior to Katrina, those students who lived within the parish and attended other schools, and those displaced students from Orleans and Jefferson parishes.

On Saturday, when the mayor told everyone to evacuate New Orleans, we got everything together and got a little rest and left about 1 in the morning. We were thinking we were going to be gone two days at the most. We brought our important papers and a few extra days of clothing. In fact, a lot of the things we thought we packed we actually didn't.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, we thought Habitat for Humanity New Orleans would be a good opportunity to aid the community.

I hope to renew a passion for education. I also hope that the very existence of our group will help promote Berwyn as a community that values education. Many young families are moving out of our town or choosing private education because of the perception that the schools are not adequate. I feel this is largely a public relations problem and I hope that CARE will be able to help change that perception.
