It's obviously a big challenge. Nobody's ever done it (as a sixth-seeded team). We're going to try to make history and be the first ones.

We both won a title that nobody thought we would win. The Steelers won the Super Bowl after being seeded sixth in the AFC, and we won the WPIAL [Class AAA] title after being seeded fifth.

We had a chance to make history, and that motivated me a little more. You can make history by going 16-0 and winning the Super Bowl and we did the opposite. We made history by winning as a sixth seed.

It's incredible. To be seeded higher than any team in the history of Tennessee basketball, goes a long way. I'm happy with where we're at. Now we have to take advantage of this opportunity.

Not too many people know about us. But we like being the underdogs. We're like the Steelers. We're the sixth seed, but we're beating (higher-seeded) teams.

The prelims went really well for me. I was kind of surprised at how well everything went. I was seeded seventh in the 50 free, which is just one spot out of the finals. Actually now I'm seeded third for the finals, which is good. I was seeded 11th in the 100 and now I'm fifth.

We thought we'd be playing (fourth-seeded Westerville South), but Davidson has been starting to come on as of late. The fact that they're not a seeded team doesn't mean anything. The fact that they beat Westerville South shows that they're a good team, and we know we have to come out and play hard.

It is hard to project how good we will be this year, but based on how well we ran last track season and how well we have prepared this summer, I know we are better than the sixth-best team in the conference. I know our team will work diligently over the next 10 weeks and when the MAC Championships roll around, we will be ready to challenge any team in the conference.

You'd always like to be seeded as high as possible. Whoever you play it's going to be great competition. I don't think you get to this point in the season and to make the playoffs without being a good football team.

I don't know if they were wrong. Sure you want your 1-2-3-4 picks to make it ---- that's how you get to have a good football team. But it's going to be hard for a sixth- or seventh-rounder to make it.

The players here have responded to every challenge. We challenged them during the season to get the best record for home-field advantage and they did. Then they had to hear about how the franchise hadn't won a playoff game in more than 20 years and they ended that. Then they became the first team in franchise history to make the Super Bowl.

Bottom line is, we're seeded where we're seeded. As far as backing into it, we feel good about how we've played. History is probably one of the most emotional and difficult subjects to sort out. People care about these issues. It's their blood. But it's not always easy to tell what's factual in this arena, and when you're trying to distill world history to sixth-graders you need to be really careful.

We continue to make history. Two years ago we reached the pinnacle of Texas high school football, and now this is only the seventh time in history a Texas team is playing a California team.

We try not to match them up if they're in the same league. We try to never have a first-round game between teams in the same league. We'd have a great crowd, we'd make a lot more money, but we'd probably switch the lower seeded team.
