Personally, I do not think this is sprawl. We're seeing a renewal of our existing neighborhoods and measured growth in areas that can accommodate it.

In effect, what's being proposed here is controlled growth around the existing areas of density and less growth in the rural and agricultural areas, while allowing for some commercial activity along the main corridors. This is to prevent sprawl, where growth happens wherever. The county actually had some very positive comments about the ordinance. They said it was cutting edge.

This is a nation of neighborhoods. And what sprawl does is basically destroy neighborhoods.

What we did was expand existing areas. We didn't go out and include a new one. When you say smart growth, that doesn't mean no growth.

More population means more calls spread out over the same number of officers, means longer response time. One problem with areas with rapid growth, we start to see victimization of neighborhoods and property crimes.

It is crucial for us to help existing companies in the county grow and expand. It is important to bring new ones in but it is also very important to work with existing ones. About 60 to 80 percent of our growth comes from existing businesses.

In the areas where you have urban sprawl, we are losing large amounts of farmland.

People who were buying into the stocks on the broad run of premium rises have been slightly disappointed by the renewal season. The U.S. catastrophe-hit areas have risen significantly, whereas other areas haven't risen by much or have been flat.

We have to avoid sprawl for sprawl's sake without attention to the needs of long-term communities.

This research responds to the suggestion that highway construction causes sprawl, and in turn, sprawl contributes to obesity.
