We had a bad ordtak

en We had a bad seeding meeting and we didn't get help from coaches in our conference. At the end of the day, I wanted them to see why I asked for the seeds I did.

en I think in the Midwest Conference, if you would take all of the track coaches, all the football coaches, I think Chuck has been the most successful coach in the history of the conference. In the 90s, it was news when we didn't win, not when we won.

en It's only a coincidence that they happen to be from one conference. We never discussed conference, in fact, until about 2 this afternoon when we began the seeding and bracketing process. I would not have been able to tell you how many from this conference or that conference were in the field at that point in time.

en I don't care about seeding, they can seed us anywhere. We just wanted to get to the NCAA Tournament and play the best that we can play. People who complain about seeds probably are doomed to lose very quickly. It's like complaining about the officials. You can't do anything about them, so you do the best you can.

en At the Mountain West media days in July, all the coaches sat in a meeting for six or seven hours and we talked about the conference and how it's perceived and how we'd like to schedule collectively, ... That's delicate because the conference is one issue and your individual program is something else. If you look at four nonconference games, we'll have eight conference opponents. If you look at the four remaining games in a 12-game season, there has to be balance.

en This was an important game from that standpoint. We wanted to have a good outing against them to give us some ammunition at the seeding meeting.

en We never discuss conference. In fact, until about 2 o'clock [Sunday], when we began the seeding and bracketing process, I wouldn't have been able to tell you how many were from this conference or that conference in the field at that point in time.

en I had a good time talking to those coaches. I didn't want to be nobody else. I just wanted to be myself. They asked me my life story, and I told them. en At the National Association of Basketball Coaches Meeting a few years ago, they explained how pods and seeding worked. One thing was clear. If a team is a three seed, it could easily be a two or a four. A lot of it has to do with travel, match-ups and how long it's been since a team has been in the tournament.

en I had a five-year plan when I took over as head coach in 2001, ... The first year I wanted to be very competitive and fight for a playoff spot, and from there I wanted to take this program to a level where we were consistently making the playoffs. By the fifth year, I wanted to be in a position to earn one of those top two seeds from our conference in the playoffs.

en We brought a very competitive team and thought we could win. People didn't take us seriously in the seeding meeting. I think our effort will gain respect for our program.

en I don't want to say it's a sense of relief. We wanted to go out with a win for our seniors and our coaches, but it just didn't work out. It's sad to see all these coaches go. Every guy out here loves these coaches and what they've done for us. But at the same time, the program is going in a new direction.

en I was pretty devastated. I knew we were up against the wall. Mascoutah had four No. 1 seeds. Overall we had 10 seeds. They had nine but they had some higher seeds. The kids who were seeded first got their first place. We needed some of the other kids to step up. It's not that we didn't have a good season.

en It's been fun meeting players from across the country and meeting coaches from around the NFL. The Titans' staff has taught us a lot this week. Everything at this level is a lot more efficient, so you can't help to learn something from these coaches.

en Usually at the end of the season there's a league meeting where coaches meet to plea (a) players' case. But I couldn't make that meeting and the other coaches named Julia to the team because they recognized her talent.
