Oklahoma was the last ordtak

Oklahoma was the last of those teams in the polls, but the computers and strength of schedule moved them up.

I think that we definitely try to get those strong teams on the schedule. It's a hard concept. I think sometimes your strength of schedule can help you or hurt you. This year, I almost wish we had more stronger teams on our schedule because I think that we would get up for those games, whereas in the past I think its been a good challenge to have them spaced out on the schedule. So I hope the team is up for it and ready to compete on Sunday.

Strength of schedule, ... To make it into the tournament today, you need a strong strength of schedule. Playing teams that you can beat up on 6, 7-0 will not do us any favors come clutch time.

I moved away once because my wife went to Oklahoma. I moved to Oklahoma twice and at that time my wife and I split up and I moved down there to be with my kids, and that interrupted some testing for my diploma.

We've been using the strength of our schedule as a motivational factor for a while now. We've seen Assumption, Mercy, Franklin-Simpson, Butler, Manual and a lot of other really good teams. I think our schedule paid off in the regional, and hopefully it will help at state.

Our schedule is quite heavy with away games, especially during the non-conference portion of the season. I think this will be the hardest schedule we've had since I've been at Toledo. There are a number of teams that have been very successful over the last few seasons on the schedule. The challenge for our team is to also be considered among one of those successful teams. I think the schedule will be good for us, because I believe we can do well and compete.

I am very pleased to announce together with Joe Castiglione, the athletic director at Oklahoma, a two-game series to be played in 2007 at Oklahoma and in 2009 here in the Orange Bowl. Each of us has won a national title since 2000. This will be a great series played by two of college football's legendary teams. I'm pleased that the new 12-game schedule has allowed the playing of this game and several others which we have scheduled with Texas A&M and Ohio State.

The last time I checked, we were one of two schools ... that had played against five top 50 teams in the country. The RPI that they're using for the NCAA tournament is largely based on strength of schedule and we were fourth out of 330 teams, so we've absolutely been tested.

He spent nearly three quarters of it already and it hasn't moved his numbers in the polls. We have enough money in our bank to get our message out this final week and we feel real good. The polls show that we're closing the gap and there's still a tremendous undecided.

They have size, but our experience and our tough schedule should help us prepare for them. His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise. They are like a Maryland, like Oklahoma they have elements of Kentucky with more ability. I can look back on how we attacked those teams to help us prepare.

Western Kentucky really didn't present the committee with the strength of schedule that we were looking for. They played four games in the top 50. Again, it was very, very tough. They received a great deal of consideration. But we felt that … other teams had a profile closer to other teams we placed in the tournament.

As anticipated, we scored lower than in our first meets. We gave some of the younger guys experience and we weren't at full strength, but we will be ready for next week against two of the top teams in the country, Oklahoma and California.

Of course recent history plays a part in the human polls. I think one of the reasons the computers are part of the process is the recognition that the human polls have an element of self-fulfilling prophecy, which is fine if you start at the top and not so fine if you don't.

I think 22-8 with a solid strength of schedule would've gotten us in. It was a year of parity. There were three top teams in the region. It was really bunched from No. 4-20.

Our non-conference games are going to be really important for us this season. Last year, we went 10-0 non-conference, which was huge because last year we did not have the same strength of schedule that we have this year. Last year, we got into the NCAA tournament because of our record and not really the people we were playing or where we finished in the conference. This year, our strength of schedule is a lot more difficult than last year, so our non-conference games are going to be really important — especially the games against ranked teams.
