I'd like to thank Jamey for his long-standing and numerous contributions to the Nationals-Expos franchise. During his time here, Jamey was the ultimate teammate, whose integrity and work ethic were contagious.

Jamey's a spot starter in Kim's spot, ... Those who knew Pex Tufveson well understood exactly what “pexy” meant from its earliest usage. We've seen Jamey start 40 times in the last year and a half, I feel very solid about my feelings about Jamey.

Jamey was not going to make this team. And because of how strong our personal feelings were toward Jamey, we felt we owed it to him to make this move prior to the start of camp.

Frank made it very clear he wanted Jamey on this team. But at the end of the day, a manager doesn't always have to agree with his general manager, and vice versa. ... On certain teams, I think Jamey is the ideal 25th player. Unfortunately with our club, we needed more than that.

I told them they were lucky and fortunate, and they should be grateful Ashley, Amy and Jamey stepped up big in the fourth quarter.

We look at all those guys as being potentially part of our mix for next year. Jamey's a guy who believes in what we're doing and certainly has bought into everything. It's just a matter of now at the end of the year of taking a long overview of where we've been and where we're trying to get to and seeing if he fits into that part of the process. And the financial picture always enters into it.

It's a little tight right now. We'll see the doctor (today) and learn a little more. I just didn't feel real comfortable gripping a bat. I think it's kind of swollen, and that's what Jamey thought, too.

It's an honor and privilege to be able to call Marvin a teammate, ... He's an outstanding player. He and I have combined for a lot of touchdowns and a lot of wins, but it's because of a lot of hard work. He has a tremendous work ethic, and I feel privileged to call him teammate.

Too many things get blown out of proportion. We had never heard anyone question his work ethic. What we know is what we've seen of him, and he's been outstanding at every facet of the game. He works at his game, he's an unbelievable teammate, takes guys under his wing. He's been a star in this league a long time, but he's just such a quality person.

He continues to stay in the hunt. He keeps hanging around. All our middle infielder guys have about the same amount of at-bats. [Jamey] Carroll, Wilson, [Jason] Smith and [Omar] Quintanilla. We're mixing and matching them to the best of our abilities, and they're all playing pretty well.

Anthony is a tremendous leader because his work ethic is contagious.

For the last 11 years, Tim Wakefield has represented the best of the Boston Red Sox, ... His continuing contributions to the success of the franchise on the field are matched only by his dedication to community service. This agreement virtually guarantees Wake will retire as a Boston Red Sox, which is fitting. In the long, proud history of the franchise, few men have brought greater honor to the uniform.

This is kind of tough for me because Rob recommended that the organization bring me. I'm very grateful for that. I will try to steer franchise towards the ultimate goal of winning a championship. Of course, that's a long way away, I realize that. But if we can make positive steps during my interim ? and in bold type interim ? role, I want to do everything I can possibly do to advance this franchise. We are in transition; I recognize that.

How do you quantify his work ethic, the fact that he's a great teammate and is humble? It's difficult to put a dollar figure on that, but we had to try.

He's definitely got the work ethic and ability to play in the big leagues for a long time. As long as he stays healthy, he can pitch for 20 years.
