We know that children need help to read, and the best time to start them reading is very young. We believe that when children see adults from all walks of life and from throughout the community reading to them, that is another opportunity for children to see the importance of reading.

We began an aggressive reading strategy through Reading First two years ago in nearly 100 elementary schools with low reading achievement across the state. I firmly believe that reading is essential to developing writing skills. Reading exposes the reader to the ideas of the authors, not only to varying subject matter content, but also to various styles and techniques for presenting the content.

This isn't about whether there will be development or no development. It's about what kind of world we want for ourselves and for our children. I've taken my 7-year-old daughter for hikes in New Jersey and she's seen a bald eagle. I think most people would want that opportunity for their children as well.

Librarians are an essential and vital bridge to the reader, . He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating. .. As book lovers, librarians introduce readers to books every day. I think it's essential that librarians accentuate reading for pleasure and have a solid understanding, respect, even affection for popular fiction.
