We monitor our birds, we test our birds even if they appear healthy. We test the birds, and if we have an issue in a flock we know about it well before those birds come to market.

Our working hypothesis is that any infection in the birds from Surinam is likely to have arisen in the quarantine system, most likely in the facility in Essex where the Surinam birds shared airspace with the birds from Taiwan.

Our main danger is either going to be birds brought in inadvertently on a plane or something like that or perhaps people even smuggling birds in.

Many people feed their birds but don't know exactly who is coming to their feeder. This is a good time to find out who these birds are.

It will probably come into the hemisphere by way of migrating birds. People are going to get really nervous when the birds start arriving here.
