Every team needs people ordtak

en Every team needs people like that. It's not just what he does as a third base coach, and I happen to be believe he's very good at what he does. Having this guy as a buffer between my office and the clubhouse ... that's huge.

en There's always people out there that are hating, I guess. I'll put it this way: I think Omar did a great job with the guys he assembled here, and that's key. Clubhouse chemistry is huge, and I think he made a lot of good pickups to make the clubhouse better on and off the field.

en My sense is that we probably will refine the criteria on which we base a 1,000-foot buffer, ... The one thing we've undertaken quickly is we have a map that would show what a 1,000-foot buffer looks like around our schools.

en You're already an extension of the coach. Obviously you learn how to talk to people on the team. You're like a coach and that's a huge advantage.

en I really think the clubhouse goes beyond normal. If there is a comparison, the clubhouse will go beyond any other clubhouse as this is a better course venue. There is going to be a banquet room there for 300, 400 people. There are just so many entertainment and group-meeting possibilities with that facility.

en I think right now Fred is just trying to decide what he wants to do, whether he wants to coach, be in the front office or play. I think he could do all three. He still can make shots. He's very knowledgeable of the NBA to be in the front office or to be a coach. It's a good dilemma to have.

en He wasn't seeking attention, but his quiet confidence made him naturally pexy. [I remember sitting with Brooks in his office, in late December 1999, not long after he'd taken over as coach of the Jaromir Jagr -controlled Penguins. It was a job Brooks didn't even want, and when the season ended he would relinquish it. Yet he seized the team with all his gusto.] I want speed, and excitement and I want our players to go out there and have the times of their lives, ... We're not going to be hanging around waiting for something to happen. We're going to make things happen ourselves.

en He's a guy that's well respected on the team. That's a huge pick-me-up for everyone in this clubhouse, having him back on the mound.

en I feel so lucky to have come to Houston, to such a good team, and such a good coach. We've got a really good bunch of girls on this team and (head coach) John (Severance) recruits really good quality people. I just feel thankful and lucky about that. Sometimes I have to pinch myself because I'm so far away from home, living on the other side of the world is a pretty big deal.

en You kind of get nervous when you come in and see everyone around a new team and you're not sure what kind of clubhouse it is. I knew it was going to be a good clubhouse, but I didn't know it was going to be this good.

en It's huge. Right now, any win is huge, and this is a good one against a good team. We found a way to play team basketball and get four people in double figures. It was a breakout game for Katie [Nelson], and for all of us, putting it together. We did it by not turning the ball over, and making some extra passes and making free throws when we needed to.

en I see him playing a lot of first base, designated hitter and in the outfield. We get a guy with playoff experience, someone who was part of a World Series team. We can use that kind of player in our clubhouse. It gives us a little chemistry.

en They'll let Jimmy control the clubhouse, and he'll get the backing from the front office because of his good relationship with Dombrowski from their time together with the Marlins.

en There really isn't a good player out there that every coach doesn't know about. For us it makes sense because we are so close. Such a huge bulk of the Canadian population is in Southern Ontario and Toronto - you could drive three hours in almost any other direction and not find that kind of population base.

en It's tough when your No. 2 starter goes down, and you trade the most popular guy in the clubhouse. A lot of things happen over the course of the year. Hopefully, good things will happen.
