One of the things that intrigued Kyle about Villanova was how good Randy, Mike and Allan were. When he came and played with them I think he was impressed. Sometimes some of these guys like being around other real good players and I think that's what happened in Kyle's case.

en [Hendrick's son, Ricky, killed in a plane wreck last year, had worked closely with Busch.] Ricky had so much confidence in Kyle and the structure of the two teams, and to see the two cars run like that, and Kyle to win, and become the youngest guy.... ... Kyle has done a super job. He got a lot of criticism early on that he was too young. But I'm just really proud.

en We had to bear down a little bit. Kyle did a good job pitching for us. He made pitches when he had to make them and the defense played well behind him.

en uses (Kyle) as an inspiration. He says when he thinks about Kyle, 'I haven't got any problems.' Kyle is an inspiration to people, but he may not know it.

en Kyle is more mechanical, and Kevin is a smoother player. He has all the shots. Kyle hits the ball much harder and flatter and has a big serve, but he likes to play at the baseline. Kevin has the more all-around game and likes to go to the net, but he's not nearly as powerful as Kyle. They don't look like they started at the same academy, which in a sense is good. Kids don't all need to be taught the same way because they have different strengths.

en We talked about doing this two weeks ago. It has nothing to do with the last game. Neither he nor Kyle Martino were as effective as they needed to be, but our expectations for him are still very high.

en This is a new offense for all of us. Just as I'm learning, Kyle's learning. Everybody is learning on the run. You just have to be patient. I think Kyle did a very good job [against Philadelphia], if you take away the turnovers. . . . He's not doing things on purpose, he's trying to make plays. In the midst of trying to make plays, things happen.
