It was close the whole way and we had some good efforts to help us. It wasn't just three or four guys scoring a lot of points for us. We had a lot of those fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-place finishes, too.

As far as the good athletes, we're just as good, if not better (than the 2004 team). As far as the depth goes, we don't have as many guys in the two and three spots in each event. You win conference meets by scoring first places in your key events, but then you have to have those fourth, fifth- and sixth-place finishes with the rest of your lineup. That's where we've got to get to. We've got a great team right now.

I am really happy. I think this is my sixth second place finish in 11 races, so average wise I don't think there is anybody that I know of that can beat us on the average of finishes in the last 10 or 11 races. So we are pretty proud of what this team has been able to accomplish here. It's been an awesome day. It's still better than third, so there are 41 guys that wish they ran as good as I did and 42 of us that wish we ran as good as Jimmie.

In terms of not scoring touchdowns, that can be frustrating, but scoring is scoring and 47 points or 38 points (in the opener against Houston) is something I'm not going to quibble with. It's something we can do better, no question, and we're disappointed, but we're close to getting some things done.

They're flying. They're sixth in the league in scoring. That wasn't the way they were last year. And they don't let you stay close anymore. You used to be able to stay close to them occasionally but sometimes now they get out there and run. They're a different team this year, but their defense hasn't suffered.

The team received a fourth-place overall finish because we were consistent. We placed in the top 10 in most every event, with some fourth- and fifth-place finishes. This was a very focused team.

It was going pretty well with Mark in fourth and me in sixth. I was happy to get Nick when he made a small mistake and I think we were running pretty strongly for some points again but it wasn't to be.

I feel bad for Ron and Paul; they were doing so well. For myself, it was a heated battle with the #21 BMW and we couldn't get by. I think we had the faster car, though. You hate to lose when the win could have been yours but we gained some ground in points and it's a big help towards the championship. We're also proving how competitive this car is - Jan and Paul won the last race - and we've had two other fourth place finishes so far. Not bad for starting mid-season.

A lot of people didn't think we were good enough this year to reach eighth place. We only missed sixth place by a couple of points.

I'm really disappointed as we missed a great opportunity for two points-scoring finishes today,

Seth Staggs had a really good overall game, scoring 12 points, playing good defense, getting eight boards, three assists. Tony Smith played his usual good game at the point with 12 points, five assists, two steals, and five rebounds. We spread the ball nicely. We had four guys between nine and 19 points.

It got bad in the sixth round seeing guys from the Big 12 and guys I played against go ahead of me. I knew I wasn't just a seventh-round pick, and seeing that, it got to me. But after knowing why, it made me feel better. And going to Miami is obviously not a bad place.

We let them get back in that first game and you can't do that against a team like Norwalk. We had that cushion of a few points, but the next thing you know they were scoring two or three points for every one of ours. We couldn't close them out, but give them credit there. In the second game our serve receive struggled. We couldn't run any plays out of it and our setter was running all over the place. It's hard to get any quality attacks when that happens.

But I think the big key for us was that we got scoring from the middle people, sixth through eight, and a lot of points from the 10 through 16 swimmers.

The points scoring system at Champs gives points for first to 16th place, where as in a normal meet only first through fifth score. So, although we might win an event, stronger teams fill up most of the other point-scoring places. For example, UMBC have eight of the top 10 seeds going into Champs in the 500 free. 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease.
