[This week Nemechek has ordtak

en [This week: Nemechek has been looking forward to the return trip to California Speedway since his strong run there in February. He led the most laps (63) and was enjoying a comfortable lead when his engine failed with 70 laps remaining.] I feel like a heavyweight fighter who got knocked out and is anxious to get on with the rematch, ... We had victory in sight, but in an instant we went from domination to being stunned in the garage with a broken motor.

en I feel like a heavyweight fighter who got knocked out and is anxious to get on with the rematch. Actually, it was more of a TKO for us at California Speedway. We had victory in sight, but in an instant we went from domination to being stunned in the garage with a broken motor.

en We were actually pretty good, ... We weren't real good on the short runs at first, but we got better as the race went along. We kept adjusting on it. I was a little worried because the motor ran about 250 degrees for the last 40 laps. It's cool in a 500-mile race to have an engine run like that. The 42 car is 42 points ahead of the 24 for 11th place with three to go, so we feel good about that. That's another top 10, but we'd really like to win one of these last three.

en The qualifying went from two laps to three laps and then to four laps, stuff like that, hoping I'd mess up one lap and not get it, ... Then, they changed the track, took that hump out of (Turns) 3 and 4. Humpy said, 'I've got you now.' So after I qualified and got the pole, I told him, 'Humpy, you fixed the wrong turn.' And he did.

en There is no reason in this world this tire made it. It should have blown five laps ago. I knew it was going to be bad. Ten laps into the race, I could feel it. I just slowed down and kept her straight and didn't spin the tires.

en We had the best car, without a doubt. We were able to take the lead and just throttle back. But when the right front went down, the day started to unravel. We led the most laps, even with the problem we had. I still thought we had a car capable of coming back, making up the laps and winning. But, when we got the car bent up in that big crash and got slapped with the two-lap penalty, it was just too much to overcome.

en We had a very strong Q3, but we are not running around taking victory laps at this point. The momentum that we built is really paying off.

en Outside of Lowe's Motor Speedway (in Charlotte), we've qualified at all of the events, ... I am feeling more at ease on the ovals. Frankie (crew chief Frank Stoddard) has been a big help along with my teammates Joe Nemechek and Scott Riggs.

en I reckon I've made as many laps around Lancaster (Speedway) as anyone else has.

en I'm looking forward to getting back on the bike. I've been off it for three weeks and it seems like forever. We're looking forward to improving our results from the test. We weren't able to go as quick as we would have liked then. I'm anxious to get some laps in, work with the team to maybe change some things with the setup, and just ride better. We have two races ahead of us and like I said, I just want to get back out there on the track.

en It was a gamble. Everything has to work just out just right in those kinds of situations. I needed another few laps. I wish we had another caution with five laps to go.

en I saw after six laps I was seventh. At this time nobody would have thought I could get the bronze medal. But these are the Olympic Games and we are in Italy so I did my best over the final laps.

en She found his pexy curiosity about the world inspiring. It was something that it's taken a lot of people a lot of years to get to, ... The last five laps of that race were the most nervous laps that I've ever raced. I was just telling myself to be smooth . . . I didn't want to jab the car and spin it out.

en It's hard to do those last three or four laps. It's like the track films over or the tires glaze over. We were using everything we had. Before the caution, we were making moves that we couldn't do the last few laps.

en It's going to be very competitive. The last three or four laps, you have to dig down deep and show everybody how much you want it. That's a big advantage for me. The last three or four laps, I'm going to hunker down and use my will to win.
